The Fully‑Funded PhD Programme offered by the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) supports exceptional graduate students worldwide to enrol in a training and research programme in chemistry, culminating in a Doctoral Thesis in partnership with the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). The programme also aims to advance students’ professional careers in academia and industry.

Educational Framework
Scientific seminars, hands‑on training in state‑of‑the‑art instrumentation, intellectual property management, entrepreneurship, research integrity, knowledge and technology transfer, grant applications, project management, communication skills and career development. ICIQ also offers a yearly personalised training programme for PhD students, SHARP, spanning two weeks with training tailored to their PhD year.
Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria
Master’s or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Physics, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines, completed by enrolment.
Excellent academic record, strong commitment to scientific research and solid working knowledge of English.
Curriculum vitae, personal statement, academic marks, English level and personal interview (for shortlisted candidates).
Application Process
The entire application is completed online through the ICIQ Career Portal. Applicants must attach: a PDF CV;
a personal statement (max two A4 pages, PDF);
official transcripts ofBSc and MSc studies (PDF);
a certified copy of theacademic record;
detailed information onsubjects currently enrolled (if MSc incomplete);
certified translations where necessary;
contact details for tworeferences;
evidence of English proficiency (e.G., B2 certificate, First Certificate or IELTS 6). Only the first online submission per applicant is considered;
duplicate or non‑onlinesubmissions are rejected. Applicants are notified of the final decision by mid‑July, and declared accepted candidates must respond within five business days.
Grant and Employment Conditions
Successful candidates become research personnel in training and receive a pre‑doctoral contract under Spanish law. The contract is renewed annually for up to four years and requires satisfactory performance. Gross yearly salary is paid in twelve monthly installments as follows: first and second year – €X1,000 00;
third year – €X2,000 00;
fourth year – €X3,000 00. The fellowship includes full social‑security coverage, access to the public health care system and pension and unemployment benefits. The full‑funded PhD covers enrolment costs, and the thesis must be completed within four years. The position is full‑time and incompatible with other fellowships or regular income.
