Offer Description
We are seeking to recruit a research assistant for the FIREPRIME project of the CARENET group.
The aim of the project is to establish an EU-wide programme to promote fire resilience in wildland-urban interface communities.
Responsibilities
* Design, testing and final development of a board game as an educational and awareness-raising tool, aimed at increasing the resilience of communities living in wildland-urban interface areas at risk of fire. The game has been conceived as a knowledge transfer tool that fosters collaboration and understanding between different actors involved in fire risk management, such as firefighters, scientists, natural area managers and forestry professionals. Tasks have included the conceptualisation of content, the creation of game mechanics, coordination with experts to validate effectiveness, and the organisation of pilot sessions with target audiences to ensure practical and pedagogical usefulness.
The successful candidate will be awarded a temporary employment until 31 December 2025 on a full-time basis, with an expected start date of June.
The reference headquarters will be located at 22@, Rambla del Poblenou, 156, in Barcelona. However, at the UOC we work with an open work model that combines teleworking with face-to-face work, depending on organisational needs and the nature of the tasks.
What kind of profile are we looking for?
* Previous training in social sciences (sociology, anthropology, social psychology, political science, social/cultural geography) or previous training in environmental sciences and interest to deepen the social sciences of risk and disasters.
* Previous experience/training in community participation, ethnographic research and/or participatory approaches (optional).
* Written and oral communication skills in Catalan and Spanish.

* Genuine interest in understanding the social, economic and political dimensions of fire risk management and disaster risk reduction.
* Experience with fire and/or other risk and disaster management.
* Ability to work in a team, autonomously and with responsibility for research objectives.
* Knowledge of the UOC's educational model, structure, systems and processes.
