Our challenge
Java Backend Developer with expertise in API development and operations support. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with modern backend frameworks, cloud-native technologies, and observability tools, combined with deep domain knowledge in Cards Payments systems. This role requires a strong focus on reliability engineering, distributed systems, and microservices architecture to ensure resilient and fault-tolerant financial transaction workflows.
The Role
Responsibilities:
* Oversees system performance monitoring and proactively identifies and resolves complex issues to ensure optimal functionality
* Investigates and resolves of critical incidents and problems in systems and services, including root cause analysis.
* Implement remedies and preventative measures to maintain and enhance system integrity
* Manages application maintenance, including performance tuning, major enhancements, comprehensive backup and recovery processes, and developing and deploying preventative maintenance procedures
* Direct service support activities, including advanced access control, application installation, and retirement of outdated systems
* Monitor quality standards of documentation and reporting
* Monitor alerting and perform corrective action based on application run books.
* Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to quality standards during development and implementation phases
* Drives continuous service improvement by developing and maintaining best practices and knowledge repositories
* Coordinates disaster recovery testing and leads post-implementation reviews to ensure system resilience
* Able to work on shift duty (8-hour day shift between 6AM - 8PM) in a 24/7 support organization.
Requirements:
* Java backend development with strong API usage experience
* (Spring / Quarkus / Micronaut / Vert.x or similar frameworks)
* Experience with cloud-native technologies – Docker, Kubernetes
* Solid understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture
* Experience with software reliability engineering (SRE) concepts:
* Resilience and fault tolerance
* Monitoring and alerting
* Incident reduction and recovery
* Strong experience in code reviews, automated testing, and defect remediation
* Knowledge around data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving skills
* Must have domain knowledge of Cards Payments systems.
* Understanding of E2E workflows of Authorization approval and clearing & reconciliation processes
* Strong experience with Databases: NoSQL / Document DBs (Couchbase or similar), Relational DBs (PostgreSQL or similar)
* Observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk and ELK (Elastic, Lomo, Kibana) logging framework
* Experience using modern engineering tools: Git, Gradle, CI/CD pipelines
* Exposure to observability platforms (logs, metrics, tracing)
* Experience building or improving service-level monitoring (SLIs / SLOs)
* Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
* Experience in high-availability, high-throughput systems
* Experience building monitoring dashboards and alerting
* Exposure to capacity planning, latency reduction, and performance tuning
* Experience with automation and recovery tooling
* Familiarity with platform-level monitoring and reporting
* Exposure to complex card payments and transaction processing systems
* Experience with orchestration and automation tooling
* Preferably a BS or MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline
* 5+ years of software experience with good understanding of programming language and have extensive knowledge of production support processes and techniques
* Experience with Payment Network environment
