What your role is
Position Overview
As an R&D Packaging Engineer within the R&D Applications Team, you will drive packaging development projects focused on innovation, core range renovation, sustainability, and margin management for Old El Paso and Green Giant, enabling our business to succeed in the marketplace.
You will leverage your technical expertise, influence, and project management skills, collaborating with cross-functional teams, internal, and external partners to identify, develop, and implement packaging solutions for new and existing products.
Accountabilities
* Manage and lead multiple projects: develop and execute technical plans, conduct risk assessments, create prototypes, manage timelines, and document work effectively.
* Collaborate with factory teams for the organization and execution of industrial trials, build trial reports, and communicate conclusions.
* Maintain and update packaging technical specifications.
* Build strong relationships and collaborate with stakeholders across R&D, Marketing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, and external partners to deliver effective packaging solutions.
* Communicate project progress, risks, and changes to business partners, influencing decisions based on consumer, technical, and business insights.
* Proactively lead collaboration efforts to develop robust packaging pipelines aligned with consumer needs and business strategies, focusing on innovation, renovation, sustainability, and margin management.
* Establish and maintain networks with suppliers, packaging organizations, and industry groups to broaden perspectives and leverage capabilities.
* Stay informed about packaging technology developments, regulatory changes, and competitive activity to support informed decision-making.
* Nurture connections within General Mills’ global packaging community to share knowledge and align on initiatives.
What you will bring to the team
Skills / Experiences
* Bachelor’s Degree in packaging, mechanical engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline.
* At least 4 years of experience in Packaging Development, Engineering, or Technology.
* Experience in packaging for food thermal applications (e.g., tins, jars).
* Proven ability to lead packaging ideation, development, and commercialization with multiple stakeholders.
* Deep technical understanding of interactions between product, packaging, and equipment, applying scientific and engineering principles.
* Knowledge of quality and regulatory standards.
* Creative design skills and structural packaging experience are preferred.
* Customer-centric mindset with experience applying design thinking practices.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and judgment skills.
* Proficiency in English and French, both written and spoken.
