Job Summary:

Supermicro is seeking a seasoned Director, Export Compliance to lead and execute the company's global export compliance program at the enterprise level. This role has day-to-day ownership of export compliance strategy, governance, and execution across Supermicro's worldwide operations, supporting rapid growth in high-performance computing, AI, and advanced semiconductor technologies.

The Director, Export Compliance serves as a key advisor to executive leadership on export control risk, regulatory strategy, and geopolitical developments. This position requires deep regulatory expertise, strong executive presence, and proven ability to scale compliance programs in complex, high-growth technology environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Executive Leadership & Enterprise Strategy

- Lead execution of Supermicro's integral export compliance strategy in alignment with the broader Global Trade organization.
- Advise the Senior Director of Global Trade and executive stakeholders on export control risk, enforcement exposure, licensing strategy, and geopolitical developments.
- Develop enterprise export compliance governance, policies, escalation protocols, KPIs, and executive-ready reporting.
- Represent Supermicro, in coordination with the Senior Director of Global Trade, in engagements with regulators, external counsel, auditors, and industry associations.

Global Export Controls & Sanctions Oversight

- Ensure enterprise-wide compliance with U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), OFAC sanctions, anti-boycott laws, and applicable international export control regimes.
- Provide executive oversight of export classifications for advanced semiconductors, AI accelerators, encryption, and cloud-enabled systems.
- Direct global export licensing strategy, including license determinations and license exceptions.

Risk Management & Governance

- Define and manage the export compliance risk framework, including risk assessments, controls, monitoring, and remediation.
- Lead responses to audits, disclosures, and regulatory inquiries in coordination with the Senior Director of Global Trade and Legal.
- Systems, Automation & Operational Excellence
- Align export compliance systems strategy with the Global Trade technology roadmap, including ERP and screening tools.
- Drive automation and scalable compliance solutions.

Training, Culture & Talent Development

- Build and lead a high-performing export compliance team.
- Establish enterprise training strategy and foster a strong culture of compliance.

Continuous Improvement & Thought Leadership

- Monitor global regulatory, technological, and geopolitical developments, proactively advising leadership on risk exposure and strategic implications.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance program maturity, resilience, and alignment with industry best practices.
- Act as a subject matter authority on export controls for emerging technologies within the organization.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree (advanced degree or certifications like CUSECO, ICA, ASCB preferred)
- 15+ years progressive export compliance experience, including 10+ years in leadership roles in technology, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing sectors
- Expert knowledge of EAR, ITAR, OFAC, anti-boycott, and international export control regimes
- Proven ability to advise executives, lead enterprise compliance programs, and influence globally in a matrixed organization
- Experience with ERP systems, compliance automation, and data analytics

Preferred Qualifications

- Expertise in dual-use export controls impacting AI, high-performance computing, advanced semiconductors, and data warehouse.
- Experience managing compliance in high-risk jurisdictions and under evolving geopolitical constraints.
- Track record of implementing or maturing global compliance systems and governance frameworks.
- Prior experience serving as a primary interface with regulators during audits, inquiries, or enforcement matters.

Salary Range

$172,000 - $238,000

The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
