Systems Engineer - Small Satellite Missions

We’re expanding our team at Alén Space and are looking for a Systems Engineer - Small Satellite Missions, passionate, talented, and experienced, to join our Space Missions area within the Systems Engineering team. The selected candidate will play a central technical role in defining and executing space missions, acting as Technical Lead when required. Responsibilities include system-level oversight, architecture and design, technical coherence, and coordination of engineering teams.
What you will be doing
* Leading the definition and consolidation of mission requirements (MRD) and system requirements (SRD) in line with customer needs and mission goals.
* Designing and iterating mission architectures, ensuring subsystem compatibility, scalability, and alignment with performance, cost, and risk constraints.
* Developing and maintaining the Concept of Operations (CONOPS) and operational modes (OpModes) for mission phases.
* Performing subsystem trade-off analyses for equipment selection and procurement.
* Supporting launcher selection, assessing interface compatibility, volume, and environmental requirements.
* Leading system verification planning, including creating and managing the Requirements Verification Matrix (RoD).
* Collaborating with internal teams—Mission Analysis, Communications & Data Handling, Mechanical—to ensure system integration.
* Acting as technical focal point for missions, interfacing with stakeholders, customers, and partners.
* Contributing technical inputs to proposals and supporting commercial activities.
What we need in our team
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in system-level engineering for space missions, preferably in small satellite projects or New Space.
* Proven experience in:
- Mission and system requirements engineering (MRD, SRD)
- Mission architecture design and subsystem definition
- CONOPS and OpModes development
- Verification planning and management (RoD)
* Experience as a Technical Lead, managing risks, facilitating decisions, and leading reviews (PDR, CDR).
* Excellent communication, documentation, and coordination skills across teams and external partners.
* Fluency in English (spoken and written).
* Ability to operate autonomously while aligning with mission and company goals.
Valuable knowledge
* Hands-on experience in nanosatellite development, including AIT.
* Familiarity with ECSS or NASA standards.
* Experience working with launch providers and interface documentation.
* Involvement in proposal writing, especially in competitive tenders (ESA, Horizon Europe).
* Knowledge of MBSE tools like MagicDraw, Capella, SysML, or similar.
