L’Institut Català d’Oncologia (ICO) is seeking to hire a higher education graduate in health sciences and/or social sciences for the Tobacco Control Unit (UCT) at ICO Hospitalet, located in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona).
The candidate will work within the JA-SAFE project (Joint Action on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention including Smoke and Aerosol Free Environments), aimed at reducing non-communicable diseases, including cancer, and their risk factors, notably tobacco consumption and environmental tobacco smoke exposure across Europe.
ICO is the competent authority and leader of Work Package 5 (WP5). It also leads other tasks and collaborates on various other work packages, with different levels of involvement.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include close collaboration with the principal investigator and project manager for WP5, as well as coordination with other WPs managed by different European institutions. Specifically, they include:
* Participate in various WP tasks such as sourcing and classifying documents, creating repositories, preparing reports, and developing tools.
* Support planning of internal and cross-WP meetings.
* Assist in preparing internal documentation (agendas, minutes, reports) and in drafting reports for the European Commission, the project portal/web, etc.
* Support event and travel management.
* Assist the UCT research team with fieldwork tasks, including data collection (interviews, focus groups, sample collection).
* Collaborate on data analysis, both quantitative and qualitative.
What we offer
* Initial contract of 1 year with potential extension up to 2 years.
* Full-time schedule (1,605 hours/year - 37.5 hours/week).
* Probation period:
1 month.
* Flexible hours with options for hybrid work after 1 year, depending on team needs.
* Salary:
approximately €38,215.80 annually + variable incentives (6%-12%).
* Start date:
15/01/2026 (subject to change based on grant agreement signing).

ICO Hospitalet, Av. Granvia de l'Hospitalet 199-203, 08908 L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.

Selection process
The process involves two stages:
evaluation of merits and a personal interview. ICO may declare the call void if candidates do not meet the necessary conditions. Only documented merits will be considered. The institution reserves the right to conduct tests and will establish a review tribunal comprising the management and unit heads to evaluate candidates.
Requirements
* Possession of a Bachelor's/Master's degree in health sciences or social sciences (preferably Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Research, or similar), or equivalent recognized at MECES level 3 or EQF Level 7.
* Experience managing European and national research projects.
* Experience in Public Health.
* Proficiency in office software, reference managers (Zotero, Mendeley), review tools (Rayyan, Covidence), and basic statistics (R, SPSS, STATA).
* High proficiency in English (C1 or above).
* High proficiency in Spanish (C1 or above).
Valued skills
* Experience in field research, interviews, or monitoring.
* Experience in tobacco control and cancer risk prevention activities.
* Experience in research centers and healthcare sector.
* Authorship of national/international publications.
* Problem-solving, initiative, leadership, autonomy, and teamwork skills.
