Supervisor :
Iván Cortés Domínguez and Carlos Ortiz de Solórzano
Research Group :
Laboratory of Microphysiological Systems and Quantitative Biology (CIMA), Program in Biomedical Engineering.
Description of the Project :
This project focuses on the development of an advanced 3D Bioprinting platform designed to generate tumor organoids from single tumor cells or tumor spheroids cultured in suspension. The bioprinted organoids will work as biomimetic models for cancer research and personalized drug screening. This innovative system aims to bridge the gap between traditional cell culture and in vivo models, providing a robust tool for oncology and translational medicine.
Specific functions of the candidate :
* Optimize advanced printing protocols to leverage the use of a dual-head bioprinter for accurate, reproducible printing of bioinks and biocompatible thermoplastics on glass substrates.
* Optimize and characterize novel bioinks suitable for printing isolated tumor cells and spheroids within 3D biomimetic scaffolds.
* Investigate the formation and growth of breast and lung cancer-derived tumor organoids using 3D fluorescence microscopy. This includes imaging acquisition and the development of tailored image analysis tools.
* Evaluate the effect of conventional antitumoral drugs using high-throughput workflows enabled by the custom-built multi-head bioprinter and developed bioinks.
The minimum requirements that candidate must address are listed above :
* Master’s degree in biomedical engineering or a related field
* Experience using design software (AutoCAD, Inventor).
* Experience using Bioprinting techniques
* Experience in cell culture and immunostaining
* Experience in confocal microscopy
In addition, other desirable requirements of the candidate will be :
* Good level of English.
* Ability to present work to a specialized audience.
* Ability to work in a team and adapt to multidisciplinary groups.
* Knowledge of cancer and organoids
We offer
* A research contract in a cutting-edge biomedical engineering environment, with the opportunity to work on an interdisciplinary project with direct translational applications in oncology.
* A full-time position during 24 months to complete the project milestones
* Access to advanced facilities and collaboration with leading experts in biofabrication, cancer research, organoids and quantitative imaging.
* Salary 25.800€
