Major Italian company world leader in the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) production, using synthetic and biological processes for Generic market as well as in Contract Development and Manufacturing (CDMO), operating with multiple countries in Italy and abroad, is looking for an Operations Director.
The Operations Director will be responsible for the overall operations of the facility, with a strong focus on HSE, pharmaceutical (API) production operations, maintenance, and OPEX and CAPEX management.
The Operations Director will develop and implement the manufacturing strategy for the site, in alignment with the overall company strategy, to ensure excellent performance in safety, environmental compliance, cost efficiency, quality, and service, while directing and leading the departments under their responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages all operations personnel in accordance with company policies by hiring, training, motivating, planning and directing work, managing performance, and resolving employee issues to ensure that assigned performance targets are met or exceeded. Oversees site operations to ensure high standards of HSE, efficiency, and productivity.
- Works with the management team to develop operating and capital budgets and coordinates the execution of capital expenditures once proper approvals have been obtained.
- Works closely with HSE personnel to ensure full compliance with GMP, local, national, and EU regulations, and company standards.
- Resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues to ensure customer requirements are met in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Develops, implements, and continuously improves standard operational practices and procedures.
- Interacts with other group companies and internal stakeholders, as well as with customers when required, to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of products.
- The Operations Director reports directly to the General Manager of the site
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering with strong technical background in manufacturing operations management.
- Minimum 10 years of management experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, with a strong background in API production. Experience in related chemical industries (e.g., fine chemicals) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of batch production and multi-product manufacturing in compliance with GMP standards.
- Proven experience in implementing operational changes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent people management skills, with the ability to lead, coach, and collaborate with national and international teams.
- In-depth knowledge of Spanish pharmaceutical manufacturing regulations, including GMP and environmental compliance.
- Hands‑on manager capable of earning the respect of the workforce while demonstrating the leadership required to implement operational improvements at the plant.
