The Localization team at Booking.com ensures that the company’s products, content, and customer experiences are tailored to global audiences. They develop and implement localization strategy, manage relationships with translation vendors, set and uphold rigorous quality standards, and collaborate with internal partners like Marketing and Product. The team leverages automation and internal/external expertise to deliver culturally relevant, high-quality translations at scale across multiple languages and regions.
The Senior Localisation Specialist focuses on delivering high-quality localisation for the French market, ensuring translated content is accurate, locally relevant, and aligned with brand and product instructions and internal language assets. This role supports global strategic ambitions, new product launches, and campaigns in the French market.
Responsibilities
* Own and be responsible for the quality of translations in French, ensuring content is accurate, culturally adapted, and adheres to brand/product guidelines and internal language assets.
* Create, manage, and maintain internal language assets and French language guidelines, including term bases, glossaries, translation memories, and style guides.
* Assess the quality of copy transcreated for key-market campaigns and participate in end-to-end processes from content brief to localised copy quality assessment.
* Perform regular quality assessments of translations and drive improvements based on stakeholder feedback.
* Provide quality coaching and training to internal linguists, external vendors, and freelancers to maintain or improve French content quality.
* Monitor quality performance metrics, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide feedback and training to linguists.
* Ensure quality processes and guidelines are followed and targets are met; contribute to documentation of quality processes and knowledge bases.
* Provide proactive localisation consultancy to ensure content is locally relevant to the French market and support localisation opportunities with stakeholders across the company.
* Collaborate with stakeholders at every stage of content creation to provide local market insights and consultancy.
* Lead market research such as competitor analysis, localisation SWOT, and market insights; apply findings to support localisation strategy for the French market.
* Support regional and global quality initiatives with the Quality Management team, Localisation Program Office, and Hub Manager.
* Assist in the development and execution of quality improvement programmes and optimise existing French quality processes.
* Proactively source insights on localisation quality management, technologies, and market trends to apply knowledge within the team.
Qualifications
* Bachelor Degree in Language, Translation, or related field
* Minimum 5 years of experience in localisation
* Minimum 5 years experience in translation, transcreation, audiovisual translation, and/or writing localized copy for the French market; or managing French localisation quality
* Native-level French speaker with excellent English proficiency
* Experience in QA testing or Linguistic QA management
* Experience in quality management including revision and providing feedback on translation quality
* Terminology management for French
* Proficient with at least one translation management software; MT post-editing
* Analytical skills to interpret quality and localisation data and market insights for French
* Excellent communication and networking skills with ability to influence stakeholders
* Proactive, independent and collaborative teamwork attitude
* Stakeholder and vendor management
* Ability to provide effective coaching and feedback
* Understanding of internationalization, SEO, e-commerce, UX and marketing
* Teamwork with local and international teams
* Prior experience as a Senior Localisation Specialist or Quality Manager is a plus; experience with ecommerce product localisation and marketing translation a plus
