Job Purpose

The Operations Specialist plays a critical field-based role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and profitable operation of BP’s retail service station network in Spain. The role is responsible for handling a defined territory of BP-owned sites, driving operational excellence, improving customer experience and commercial performance, while ensuring full compliance with BP operating, HSSE, and brand standards. This is a home‑based role located in Madrid, requiring extensive travel within the assigned territory.


Key Accountabilities

* Lead the day‑to‑day operational performance of 35–40 service stations, primarily in the Madrid region and, where required, selected sites in Northern Spain.
* Spend approximately 60% of time in the field, conducting site visits, audits, and operational follow‑ups.
* Ensure all sites operate in line with BP operating procedures, policies, HSSE standards, and brand expectations.
* See opportunities for improvement in customer experience, offer execution, operational excellence, performance, and implement corrective actions.
* Conduct operational audits and follow‑up on compliance, execution, and remediation actions.
* Act as a key point of contact between the sites and internal areas (Commercial Area, Convenience, Opex, Maintenance, Marketing).
* Lead day‑to‑day operational incidents, applying judgement and making autonomous decisions within established governance.
* Interpret operational and commercial performance data, using Excel at an intermediate level, to support decision‑making and prioritization.
* Build strong working relationships with site managers and partners, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution.
* Support the consistent implementation of change initiatives, operational improvements, and new ways of working across the territory.


Experience & Capability Requirements

* Operational Retail experience required.
* Broad understanding of the Retail business and business processes.
* Experience working autonomously in roles with high responsibility and independent decision‑making.
* Strong customer engagement skills with the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships.
* Exposure to running operational performance across multiple locations.


Skills & Competencies

* Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to interact confidently with multiple partners.
* High levels of autonomy, proactivity, prioritization, and decision‑making capability.
* Customer‑focused mentality, proactively understanding needs and driving operational excellence.
* Ability to handle conflict and operate effectively in complex, fast‑paced operational environments.
* Organized with a natural inclination for planning.
* Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations.
* Comfortable with driving and working independently in the field.
* Solid analytical and interpretative skills (data interpretation rather than data creation).
* Excel – intermediate level (filters, lookups, basic data analysis).


Languages

* Spanish: Native or fluent.
* English: Upper‑intermediate level.


Education

* Higher vocational education (Grado Superior) or equivalent experience.
* Relevant operational, technical, or business‑related education preferred.
* Continuous professional development in operations, retail, or field‑based environments is an advantage.
