Overview The Localization team at Booking.com ensures that the company's products, content, and customer experiences are tailored to general audiences. They develop and implement localization strategy, manage relationships with translation vendors, set and uphold rigorous quality standards, and collaborate with internal partners like Marketing and Product. The team leverages automation and internal/external expertise to deliver culturally relevant, high-quality translations at scale across multiple languages and regions. Their work enables Booking.com to connect with users worldwide, drive engagement, and support strategic initiatives like the Connected Trip, all while maintaining consistency, accuracy, and effectiveness across diverse markets.
Role responsibilities Own and be responsible and accountable for the quality of translations provided by internal and external linguists in American English, ensuring localised content is accurate, culturally adapted, and adheres to brand and product instructions and internal language assets.
Create, manage and maintain internal language assets and American English language and culture guidelines, including term bases, glossaries, translation memories, and style guides.
Assess the quality of copy transcreated for key-market campaigns and participate in end-to-end content processes from brief creation to local copy quality assessment.
Perform regular quality assessments and drive improvements based on stakeholder feedback.
Provide quality coaching and training to internal linguists, external vendors, and freelancers to maintain/improve quality of American English content.
Monitor quality performance metrics, identify improvement opportunities, and provide feedback and training to internal and external linguists.
Ensure adherence to existing and new quality processes, methodologies, and guidelines and meet applicable quality targets.
Contribute to documentation and maintenance of internal localisation quality processes and knowledge bases in cooperation with the Quality Manager.
Provide proactive localisation consultancy to ensure content is locally relevant to the American English market and support localisation opportunities across stakeholders.
Collaborate with stakeholders at every stage of the copy/content creation process to provide local market insights.
Lead market research such as competitor analysis and localisation SWOT analyses to support regional strategy in the American English market; apply insights in daily work.
Support regional and global quality initiatives with the Quality Management team, Localisation Program Office, and Hub Manager.
Own quality checks of language tests, create training resources, and provide regular feedback on quality for linguists during and after hiring.
Cooperate with the Quality Manager to develop and execute quality improvement programmes.
Optimize existing quality processes for American English and implement new approaches to improve team output.
Sourcing insights on current trends in localisation quality management and technologies and applying learnings to the team and projects.
Role qualifications and requirements Bachelor's degree in Language, Translation, or related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in localisation and in translation/transcreation/audiovisual translation or writing localized copy for American English, or managing localisation quality for American English
Native-level American English speaker with excellent spoken and written skills
Experience in QA testing or Linguistic QA management
Experience in quality management including revision, editing, and providing/receiving feedback on translation quality
Terminology management for American English
Proficiency with at least one translation management software
MT post-editing
Analytical skills to interpret quality and localisation data and market insights
Excellent communication and networking skills with ability to influence stakeholders
Proactive, independent and collaborative work style
Stakeholder and vendor management
Ability to coach and provide continuous feedback effectively
Understanding of internationalization, SEO, e-commerce, UX and marketing techniques
Teamwork and ability to work with local and international teams
Prior experience as a Senior Localisation Specialist or Quality Manager is a plus
Experience with ecommerce product localisation, marketing, and creative content translation/transcreation is a plus
