The purpose of a Structural Engineering Manager is to oversee the development and execution of a comprehensive structural strategy for APMT for both new as well as old equipment. This to ensure the safety, integrity, and longevity of structures as per APMT Equipment Specicfication. The Manager and their team are responsible for managing the Equipment Structural Specs, Design improvements, Repair Procedures Inspection Manuals and Intervals. The role involves balancing engineering knowledge, outsourcing standards, project management, stakeholder communication, and budget oversight to achieve organizational goals. Ultimately, the Structural Engineer Manager ensures the equipment achieves its technical life and makes sure APM is within compliance regarding Structural Risk.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Program Strategy and Development: Define and implement the overall vision, goals, and roadmap for the Structural Engineering Program, Database, Specs and Standards for the complete structural life of container handling equipment (New Build – Demolition).
2. Program Strategy and Development: Define and implement the overall vision, goals, and roadmap for the Structural Integrity Management System where APMT manages the previously defined structural engineering program.
3. Project Management and Execution: Oversee the planning, execution, and timely delivery of design reviews, repair procedures ensuring they meet schedule and quality standards of terminals and projects.
4. Team Leadership and Coordination: Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring effective communication and alignment on project goals.
5. Client and Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary liaison for clients and stakeholders, managing expectations and helping the team deliver clear, actionable reports and advice.
6. Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Identify opportunities for process improvement, adopting new technologies, and refining quality control to enhance program effectiveness.
Specific Areas of Responsibilities:
7. Focal point for structural related issues in APMT/CES portfolio.
8. Structural Specifications of Equipment
9. Design Reviews
10. Asset Integrity Management System Development in collaboration with the execution team of SIMS.
11. Master Plan that encompasses creation of BIM models for all big equipment for all customers and resources planned.
12. Monitor the progress of projects and make adjustments as necessary to meet deadlines and quality expectations.
13. Foster a collaborative environment where teams work together to achieve common goals.
14. Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
15. Optimize inspection manuals and intervals, drive cost reduction for terminals at a competitive edge for CES.
CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Education:
16. Masters degree in Structural Engineering field
17. Project Management Professional and/or PRINCE II certification preferred
18. Any additional experience in heavy industry equipment management are beneficial
19. Strong technical background in Steel structures
20. Welding Certification is beneficial
Experience:
21. Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural engineering projects or. vocational/technical education with +15 years’ experience on structural engineering repairs and or design projects.
22. Experience with client management and internal departmental communications
23. Proven track record of successful project management on structural design projects
24. Experience in after sales services, commercial negotiations
25. Experience in managing external consultant team.
Specialized knowledge:
26. Expertise with structural analysis (FEA) and design principles for container equipment and cranes
27. Expertise in managing multiple projects, including scheduling, budgeting, deliverables and resource allocation.
28. Expertise of failure mechanisms, such as corrosion, fatigue, and material degradation
29. Stakeholder management, working with clients, engineers, and inspection teams.
30. Requires a general familiarity with operational maintenance processes and inspection technique
31. Requires specific technical knowledge of structural systems and inspection works
32. Skilled in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams such as engineers, construction managers, and maintenance crews.
Communication:
33. Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
34. Good English communication both speaking and writing
35. Expresses ideas effectively to individuals and groups both in oral or written form adjusts language and terminology to suit the situation
36. Must be able to read technical documentation
37. 2nd language beneficial (Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin as an example)
Skills
38. Proficiency with industry-standard Structural FEA Programs (Ansys, Nastran, Abaqus)
39. Good Microsoft Office skills
40. ERP experience (Maximo, IFS)
