As a mid level Backend Engineer, you’ll play a crucial role in shaping the technical foundation of our platform. From clean architecture and test-driven development to meaningful product collaboration, your work will directly impact how JOIN delivers a fast, stable, and reliable experience to our users.


Tasks

What you’ll be doing

Your work will directly influence JOIN’s product quality, architecture, and customer impact. Here’s what that looks like:

* Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and DevOps teams through our custom Agile SDLC/Kanban process.
* Contribute to requirement definition and propose scalable technical solutions that serve real customer needs.
* Conduct peer code reviews and participate in retrospectives to continuously improve our codebase and culture.
* Build scalable and well-tested backend services, using clean architecture, linters, code generators, and coding conventions.
* Demonstrate ownership, accountability, and clear communication across cross-functional teams.
* Engage in technical retrospectives and help shape topics such as testing culture, automation, and architecture.

Who you’ll work with

You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Frontend, Platform, and other Backend engineers, all of whom value clean, scalable code and open communication. You’ll be part of a team that believes in mentorship, self-sufficiency, and shared ownership


Requirements

What we’re looking for

We don’t believe in checklists – but if most of these apply to you, we’d love to chat:

3+ years of experience in backend development (strongly typed languages or TypeScript).

Experience with any RDBMS (via raw queries or ORMs).

Solid experience writing unit and integration tests.

Familiarity with message brokers like SNS, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or Google PubSub.

Proactive and reliable, with a sense of ownership and accountability.

Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.

Growth mindset – eager to learn and quick to pick up new technologies.

Nice to have:

* Experience with GraphQL.
* Cloud exposure (GCP or AWS).
* Knowledge of gRPC and protocol buffers.
* Understanding of SOLID principles.
