- 12 months+ We are seeking an experienced HV Substation Construction Manager to lead the delivery of a major grid connection and high-voltage substation project in Madrid.
This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the successful design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and energisation of HV infrastructure that supports a large-scale, mission-critical development.
You will need to work onsite in Madrid on a full time basis.
Fluent in English and Spanish.
Key Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end delivery of HV substation works, ensuring safe, on-time, and high-quality execution.
Drive programme certainty through robust planning, schedule management, and contractor performance oversight.
Champion a zero-harm safety culture, ensuring compliance with local regulations, industry standards, and best practices for HV construction.
Manage EPC contractors, consultants, and owner's engineers through all project phases.
Coordinate utility and grid interfaces, including engagement with REE, DSOs, and connection stakeholders.
Oversee commissioning, energisation planning, and readiness activities.
Ensure effective integration between HV infrastructure, MEP systems, and wider project delivery programmes.
Monitor budgets, forecasts, variations, and commercial performance while supporting value engineering initiatives.
Identify, manage, and mitigate key project risks, including utility constraints, long-lead equipment, and programme dependencies.
Provide clear reporting on progress, risks, schedule performance, and delivery outcomes.
Your Skills Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
10+ years' experience delivering HV substation, transmission, or grid infrastructure projects (45k V to 400k V+).
Proven track record managing EPC contractors and delivering projects through commissioning and energisation.
Strong understanding of Spanish grid requirements, utility interfaces, IEC standards, and HV construction safety practices.
Experience in data centre, mission-critical, or large-scale infrastructure environments is highly desirable.
Strong leadership, stakeholder management, commercial awareness, and programme delivery skills.
Advantageous experience: Safe delivery of HV infrastructure with excellent EHS performance.
Achievement of key energisation milestones ahead of operational requirements.
Strong contractor performance and programme optimisation.
Effective coordination between utility, construction, and commissioning stakeholders.
Transparent reporting and proactive risk management throughout the project lifecycle. xpzdshu
