The role The Associate/Senior Editor role is suited for researchers who love science and want a wider view of the natural world, beyond the bench. The responsibilities include:
Handling original research papers and working with editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
Making well-reasoned editorial decisions based on expert input.
Determining representation of their subject area in the journal.
Collaborating with editors at other Nature journals and with international scientific experts.
Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
Responsibilities Manage submission handling, manuscript selection, and oversee peer review.
Provide informed editorial decisions and context for submissions.
Define and communicate the journal’s coverage for condensed matter physics.
Coordinate with editors across the Nature family and engage with the scientific community.
Travel as needed to engage with researchers worldwide.
Qualifications A PhD (or equivalent) in condensed matter physics (topological physics included).
Demonstrated breadth of scientific interest, within and beyond the specialty; solid-state physics focus with openness to related areas such as correlated materials and phase transitions.
Preference for some postdoctoral experience; strong grounding in fundamentals is essential.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluent in English (written and spoken).
Ability to assess novelty, context, and implications of submitted research across areas of condensed matter physics.
Willingness to travel and engage with scientists globally and help them understand what Nature Communications seeks in papers.
Location and Application Details This role can be located in Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, New York, Jersey City, Madrid, or Milan. Full-time, permanent position. Editorial experience is not required, though applicants with significant experience may be considered for Senior Editor positions.
