Mission
Our core team of 25 engineers is responsible for the electrical and functional validation of every spacecraft instrument, equipment and subsystem that is designed and manufactured by Thales Alenia Space in Spain. Each test bench requires robust, safe, automated, well‑thought‑through designs of EGSEs, SCOEs, suitcases, cables and harnesses that connect the bench to the unit under test (UUT). Hardware engineers provide the test benches, while software engineers in the same core unit control them, delivering a complete automated solution that performs the specified tests.
Responsibilities
* Propose the architecture of the test bench, balancing project cost, schedule, engineering best practices, testing requirements, unexpected needs, reusability, and ease of automation.
* Ensure the technical performance of the solution.
* Design, develop, integrate and validate the test bench from a hardware perspective, closely cooperating with the software team.
* Lead the specification of modules to be subcontracted and follow up with subcontractors.
* Lead procurement of test bench elements.
* Lead the documentation of the test bench, providing a minimum data package even for internal benches.
* Lead integration and validation in collaboration with software engineers, prior to connection to the UUT.
* Provide support during UUT campaigns performed with the test benches.
* Learn our in‑house designs and building blocks, propose improvements and new additions.
* Participate in project milestones and meetings.
* Be accountable to core unit teammates, project team members and project lead across disciplines; collaborate in the IVVQ process.
Skills and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in telecommunication, electrical, aerospace engineering, physics or a similar technical discipline.
* Minimum 3 years of experience designing and developing automated test benches.
* Experience debugging electronic boards and modules (analog, digital, RF, power, optical detection).
* Experience with standard commercial instrumentation (oscilloscopes, analyzers, meters, generators, data acquisition systems).
* Knowledge of control protocols (GPIB, USB, I2C, SPI).
* Experience using design tools (e.g., ORCAD, Altium).
* (Ideally) Experience with FPGA/VHDL.
* (Ideally) Experience with communication buses (SpaceWire, CAN, 1553).
* (Ideally) Experience with C++, LabVIEW or other programming languages.
* (Ideally) Experience with agile methodologies (lean, obeya, scrum).
* High level of English required; French is a plus.
* Ability to manage costs and planning.
* Teamwork, improvement spirit, pragmatism, results‑oriented, dynamic, accountable.
* Motivated to learn new technologies, space‑business processes and tools.
Kind Reminders
* This role requires on‑site work most of the time; mobile tools and equipment will be provided, and teleworking or flexible hours can be arranged with the core unit manager.
* Availability to travel when required (0–5 trips per year) is expected.
