HSE Manager – Spain (Health, Safety, Environment & Security)

AESC is a global leader in lithium-ion and LFP battery technology, expanding in Spain with a €1 billion gigafactory in Extremadura, opening by 2026, creating up to 900 jobs. The facility aims to be Spain's first net-zero industrial park gigafactory, aligning with AESC’s sustainability goals.
Role Purpose:
To establish and lead a world-class HSE function supporting operations and the new gigafactory, ensuring legal compliance, promoting safety, mitigating risks, and advancing environmental stewardship in a high-growth environment.
Key Responsibilities:
HSE Strategy & Compliance:
Develop and maintain EHSS programs aligned with Spanish/EU laws, ISO standards, and local safety codes. Monitor legal updates, lead permit applications, and implement global policies locally.
Risk Management & Incident Response:
Support design stages from an environmental, health, and safety perspective. Conduct safety assessments, audits, and incident investigations. Maintain emergency plans and conduct drills.
Training & Cultural Development:
Develop multilingual HSE training programs, promote a proactive safety culture through engagement initiatives.
Environmental & Sustainability Leadership:
Lead waste management, energy efficiency, water use, and GHG tracking programs. Ensure compliance with EU and Spanish environmental regulations.
Security & Regulatory Interface:
Coordinate with authorities for safety licensing, oversee physical security measures related to battery safety.
Team Leadership & Reporting:
Report KPIs monthly to global leadership, ensure data system integration, and oversee HSE performance metrics.
Required Experience & Expertise:
Minimum 10 years of HSE experience in industrial/manufacturing settings, including 5 years in leadership roles.
Proven management of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 systems, successful audits.
Strong knowledge of Spanish/EU regulations (Seveso III, REACH, CLP, etc.) and experience with permitting.
Hands-on leadership during projects and gigafactory launches, especially in battery or clean tech industries.
Experience with process safety, ATEX, machine safety, contractor compliance.
Multilingual safety training development and delivery skills.
Ability to monitor and report HSE KPIs effectively.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills across functions and external bodies.
Background in sustainability and waste management related to battery materials is advantageous.
