Research Engineer (RE3)
Position: Research Engineer (RE3). Location: Barcelona, Spain. Closing Date: Saturday, 18 October 2025.
Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC‑CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and hosts EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large‑scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D; into both computer and computational science under one roof, and currently has over 1,000 staff from 60 countries.
Context and Mission
Applications are invited for one post‑doctoral research engineer in High Performance Computing (HPC) architectures at BSC‑CNS. The position is offered in the context of multiple industry‑funded projects to perform and lead tasks in integrated circuit design.
Key Duties
- SoC integration and verification (ASIC in advanced technologies)
- ASIC area, timing and power estimation
- Design of high‑performance accelerators for machine learning
- Scientific publications and dissemination
Requirements
- Education
- Doctorate in Electronic Engineering and related fields
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Architecture of high performance machine learning accelerators (4 years experience)
- RTL integration of SoC ASIC design (4 years experience)
- ASIC synthesis tools (e.G. Genus) (4 years experience)
- ASIC verification (4 years experience)
- Verification tools (Questa, Xcelium, VCS) (4 years experience)
- Excellent knowledge of SystemVerilog language
- Competences
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Scientific writing and dissemination.
Conditions
- Position located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department.
- Full‑time contract (37.5 h/week), versátil working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to relocation procedures.
- Open‑ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration.
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement.
- Salaries: Competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience, according to the cost of living in Barcelona.
- Starting date: 1 November 2025.

Selection Process
The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system (“Concurso‑Oposición”). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
- Curriculum analysis (40 points)
- Interview phase (60 points). Minimum of 30 points out of 60 required.
Panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25 % representation of women.
