Your role and responsibilities
As an Automation Project Engineer, you will lead engineering solutions in the Metals and Pulp & Paper local markets. Responsibilities include programming DCS (PLCs and HMIs), defining bills of materials, developing electrical control system plans, establishing communications with plant assets and third-party systems, performing FAT tests, and commissioning. You will collaborate with project managers, sales teams, customers, and engineering peers across multiple locations. You will also provide technical support, including on-call service at least one week every three weeks, with 24-hour availability for travel and customer support during that week. Flexibility to work extra hours during weekends or holidays is required. Willingness to travel domestically (40-60%) for commissioning and service activities is essential.
Qualifications for the role
* 3-5 years of proven experience as a project engineer delivering HW & SF design projects, including commissioning, maintenance, and technical assistance.
* Knowledge of control processes in Metals and Pulp & Paper industries is preferred.
* Engineering degree (B.Eng or M.Eng.) in Automation, Software, Electronics, Systems, or Instrumentation.
* Experience with ABB Software – 800xA, AC800M, and AC400 Advant Master Engineering.
* Knowledge of industrial protocols such as IEC61850, Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus & Profinet, OPC. Experience with third-party DCS/PLC & SCADA systems is a plus.
* Understanding of functional safety standards and project practices; a safe and ethical leadership attitude.
* Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
* Valid driving license.
