Descripció del projecte/ Project description:
Collaborations between specialists in computer vision and machine learning (to extract relevant features from visual communicative signals, discover patterns in the data, and quantitatively assess them for recognition and synthesis), linguists specialised in multimodal communication and sign language (to construct predictive linguistic theories based on low-level patterns found in the data), and specialists in computer graphics (to produce virtual characters with sign language and multimodal conversational abilities). Virtual signer synthesis to support the feedback provision to SL learners and its integration within the eXtended Reality educational platform in the context of the UPF tasks within the project VISTA-SL.

Funció a desenvolupar/ Tasks to be performed:
Synthesis of virtual signers, especially expressive facial and upper torso animation, from both video and phonological input,
implementing open source tools to support the creation of high quality virtual signers and, by extension, virtual characters, and their flexible rendering in different outputs, including personalisation support, with the transferability of animations to multiple characters".
Síntesi d'intèrprets de llengua de signes virtuals, especialment animació expressiva de la cara i la part superior del tors, a partir d'entrades de vídeo i fonològiques, implementant eines de codi obert per donar suport a la creació d'intèrprets de llengua de signes virtuals d'alta qualitat i, per extensió, personatges virtuals, i la seva representació flexible a diferents sortides, incloent-hi el suport de personalització, amb la transferibilitat d'animacions a múltiples personatges.
