The Institute
The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed of an interdisciplinary, motivated, and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.
The CRG Genomics unit is seeking a Specialised Technician with an advanced knowledge in Biology, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), and bioinformatics. The primary role of this position will be to design the Flow Cells to be run by the Unit and to support the data quality control workflow including checking quality of the sequencing data produced and to transfer all data generated to the users. Also, the role implies to give support with the Laboratory Management System (LIMS) and the web portal Agendo both used for sample traceability and submission. The position also requires helping Genomics Technicians and users with the troubleshooting of the sequencing runs.
About the team
The scope of the Genomics Unit is to provide excellent, cutting-edge services in the fields of next-generation sequencing (NGS). The team is led by Dr. Berta Fusté and composed of 14 highly experienced NGS technologies technicians. The Unit is also dedicated to testing, implementing, and developing new genomic applications that are of relevance to the CRG and its lines of research.
The Unit is equipped with a wide range of short-read sequencing instruments from Illumina (2 Novaseq6000, 1 Nextseq2000, 1 Nextseq500, 1 MiSeq, and 1 iSeq100), and also it has a long-read sequencing instrument from Oxford Nanopore Technologies (1 MinION and 1 P2solo). The unit is also prepared with all the instrumentation for DNA and RNA quality control and NGS library preparation, including 2 TECAN robots for automation of protocols.
The Genomics Unit is embedded in the CRG Core Technologies Programme that includes the technology units of proteomics, bioinformatics, protein technologies, tissue engineering, flow cytometry, and advanced light microscopy. The programme is directed by Mònica Morales and all units collaborate strongly in the setup and implementation of transversal workflows and technologies across units.
