Overview Important Cosmetic Company is looking for a Packaging Development engineer based in Barcelona. The position serves as a key technical resource to assist in the development and designs of packaging materials that meet product specifications and consumer needs. Generating new packaging for product launches in response to a given brief, evaluate new suppliers, collaborate on supply and package options, and manage design to value projects and tasks that support project implementation. End-to-end packaging responsibility for each NPD, Business Continuity, and Cost Savings projects will sit with the Packaging Development Engineer. Generate/Execute NPD projects and EPD projects ensuring brand relevance.
Responsibilities
Design packaging thinking on marketing brief, formula requirements, factory capabilities, supply chain relevant factors (LT, MOQ) and procurement cost.
Work closely with marketing.
Investigate packaging options and costs (preliminary BOM, coordination with GSP to define suppliers and costs, provide marketing with input on manufacturability and aspects affecting costs, provide cost of tooling and tests/trials costs, alignment with formulation on the best container-formula combinations to obtain the best product performance).
Collaborate with formulation and testing lab to carry out necessary tests to ensure proper container–product interaction–compatibility tests.
Collaborate with Packaging engineering to carry out necessary tests to ensure proper interaction container–product–packaging line.
Manage with Finance and Innovation Ops cost estimations during all phases of the project to assure COG remains on target and GM objectives are achieved.
Support if it is necessary factory first run production.
Supply innovations to marketing: performance, shapes and sustainability (keeping up-to-date with sustainability trends and available technologies; keeping up-to-date with technological innovations).
Be the owner and continuously manage all documentation related to packaging and pack use, including:
Definition and creation of Bill of Material
Definition and creation of pack technical specifications and providing technical specifications to suppliers
Define, in collaboration with Marketing, the packaging quality standards (components and FG) for QC use
Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating required documentation related to sustainability data
Collaboration on generation of filling and assembling documentation
Collaboration on creation and maintenance of logistic data
Support quality to solve issues, knowledge on criteria of acceptance; manage and implement Design to Value projects (DTV).
Supply innovations to improve performance, quality and/or cost effectiveness (stays abreast of industry trends and new technologies, coordinate with procurement on component specifications, work closely with suppliers).
Promote, push, implement and lead improvements in packaging components and associated processes (DTV).
Collaborate with Procurement to look for new suppliers and to define the preferred list of suppliers adapted to the new requirements.
Support studies and implementations of packaging source changes driven by economical and/or supply issues.
Support studies and implementations of FG source changes (insourcing/outsourcing) driven by economical and/or supply issues.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent is required.
Basic knowledge of packaging materials and technologies.
Desirable 3-5 years of experience as a Packaging Development with a demonstrated track record of delivering results in a complex environment, but not necessary.
Fluent Spanish and English .
Computer proficient (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint).
