The vacancy for an Assistant station Manager at Rijk Zwaan
Assistant station Manager is responsible for the cultivation and maintenance of crops and facilities. This implicates to lead the day-to-day activities of the station and rental locations: preparation of the greenhouse compartments, sowing, transplanting, nutrition, irrigation, crop protection, disease control, climate control, crop management, general maintenance of the farm and rotation of the crops. The position is also in charge of the maintenance of equipment and greenhouses. Furthermore, this position will be responsible for a big number of temporary workers as well as considerable number of fixed employees working in the farm. Thus, proven leadership of temporary and fixed employees as well as strong organizational skills are necessary. The work is performed in collaboration with the Station Managers and the rest of farm team. Priority crops are tomato, melon, watermelon and experience with most of these crops is desired.
Responsibilities
* Lead the day-to-day activities of the station and rental locations, including preparation of greenhouse compartments, sowing, transplanting, nutrition, irrigation, crop protection, disease control, climate control, crop management, general maintenance, and crop rotation.
* Maintain equipment and greenhouses.
* Coordinate and supervise a large number of temporary workers and fixed employees, demonstrating proven leadership and strong organizational skills.
Qualifications
* Master’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, or Horticulture
* Knowledge of seed business and plant genetics is desired
* At least 2 years of experience managing a farm in agriculture, seed business, vegetable production, etc.
* Ability to coordinate technically the crops
* Strong interest in product knowledge
* Strong interest in people development, team oriented
* Strong communication and leadership skills
* Highly motivated, and able to work independently
* Speak English fluently
