About BSC

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC‑CNS) is the leading supercomputing centre in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and has been a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE. It is now the hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large‑scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. BSC’s mission is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D; across computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, with over 1,000 staff from 60 countries.

Context And Mission

Reporting to the head of the BSC Project Innovation Management Unit, the Innovation Officer will help maximise the impact of BSC’s EU and national projects and foster a culture of innovation across the Institute.

Key Duties

- Support BSC researchers in preparing the Impact section during the pre‑award phase.
- Participate in, prepare and execute exploitation tasks for Horizon Europe projects or similar, throughout the project lifecycle (proposal, execution, closing).
- Work with Principal Investigators, Project Partners and the BSC TTO to identify all IP related to projects and define appropriate protection mechanisms (patents, open‑source licensing, etc.) in line with the Project Exploitation Strategy.
- Contribute to the consolidation and growth of BSC’s Project Innovation Management Unit by sharing best practices, processes, guidelines, training and mentoring.
- Guide researchers through the Impact section during proposal preparation and monitor EU policy updates relevant to the proposals’ topics.
- Follow the development of exploitable technologies, participate in post‑project exploitation tasks and committees.
- Write necessary project deliverables—exploitation plans, market analysis, sustainability plans—within specified deadlines.
- Interface with all relevant stakeholders, including partners, principal investigators, internal BSC teams, EU commission reviewers, etc.
- Prepare and attend meetings (telcos, F2F, reviews, networking events, tradeshows).
- Support and manage Industrial and Experts Advisory Boards, Focus Groups, or other external project bodies.
- Contribute to project proposals, especially the impact and implementation sections of EU projects and technology transfer calls.
- Help principal investigators and partners realise exploitation activities and ensure the sustainable use of project results after project completion.
- Share best practices, processes and knowledge with the exploitation team.

Requirements

- Education – Engineering, Science or related degree preferred; Master in innovation management or similar a plus; specialised courses on IPR, impact, exploitation of research results, technology transfer; PhD not required but valuable.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience – Knowledge of EU‑funded projects involving non‑profit research centres and private industry; experience drafting R+D+i proposals (impact sections, market analysis, business plans) in European programmes.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience – Knowledge in IPR management and project management; experience with “exploitation” activities related to the Horizon Europe programme.
- Competences – Fluency in Spanish and English; excellent written and verbal communication; ability to take initiative, prioritise and work under deadlines; cooperative team player with a can‑do attitude; ability to work independently and in a multicultural, multilingual environment; willingness to travel.

Conditions

- Location: BSC Director’s Department.
- Contract: Full‑time (37.5 h/week), open‑ended, versátil hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, relocation support.
- Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + 24th & 31st December per collective agreement.
- Salary: Competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience, in line with the cost of living in Barcelona.
- Starting date: ASAP.
