The Opportunity
The engineering department of Spacewell is currently looking for a mid-senior backend engineer to join the core team. We are looking for engineers who embrace software craftsmanship and have a background in either Java or Kotlin. We prioritise the use of Agile methodologies and XP practices such as TDD, pairing, and CI/CD, as a basis for delivering high-quality code frequently, while taking care of the business domain (DDD). We are open to both onsite and remote candidates residing in Spain, have a valid work permit for Spain, and would enjoy meeting the team during the year in our Barcelona office.
You will
* Be part of a backend team composed of Software Developers and a Product Manager, working together through the full process of agile software development.
* Collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including infrastructure, customer success, and other development teams.
* Ensure the platform runs smoothly, managing millions of measurements daily, considering security, performance, and concurrency.
* Participate in a deep refactor of core components: rethinking models, extracting monolith functionalities into independent services, improving performance and scalability, and query optimization.
* Deploy changes in production using CI/CD pipelines: owning the entire lifecycle from pull request to production (testing, quality metrics, QA, and observability).
* Maintain accountability and proficiency with team code, keeping it clean and simple.
* Dedicate one day per sprint (two weeks) to free choices for innovation with new technologies, tools, or approaches.
Requirements
* Team player with good social skills and enjoyment in collaborative problem-solving.
* Product mindset, understanding customer pains and problems to build the best solutions.
* Pragmatic approach, balancing quality, performance, and time-to-market.
* Experience using Docker containers and dockerizing microservices.
* Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, BigQuery).
* Knowledge of SOLID principles and Clean Architecture.
* Familiarity with the testing pyramid.
Nice to have
* Experience in DDD and clean architecture.
* Experience with microservices patterns.
* Knowledge of asynchronous, reactive programming, and functional paradigms.
* Experience with Cloud Native Infrastructure (lambda functions, buckets, managed services).
* Experience in profiling and monitoring tools.
* Knowledge of the Energy sector.
