Position Summary
The Manager, Energy Storage Applications Engineering, provides technical expertise to support Canadian Solar's energy storage solutions. This role involves driving pre-sales activities for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including system sizing, data analysis, preliminary design, cost estimation, financial optimization, and value engineering. The manager will collaborate with commercial and engineering teams to develop project proposals and provide technical support to meet customer needs.
Pre-sales Engineering & Design
* Serve as a technical liaison for the sales team, providing expertise on product specifications and value engineering.
* Analyze customer documentation to determine project scope, schedule, specifications, risks, and technical requirements.
* Prepare technical proposals and coordinate bid package development with relevant departments.
* Negotiate technical contract schedules.
* Collaborate with sales, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure project understanding and alignment.
* Conduct technical presentations and clarify project details for customers and internal teams.
* Develop size models and conceptual drawings, such as electrical one-line diagrams and site layouts, with Applications Engineers.
* Establish and maintain engineering design criteria and standards for BESS projects in collaboration with the engineering team.
* Perform site visits and field inspections as needed.
* Coordinate in-house estimating activities, including drawings and specifications.
* Manage RFP processes for major subcontractors, including scope of work for electrical installations and design.
* Investigate alternative sources for equipment and subcontractors with the procurement team.
Requirements & Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; a graduate degree is preferred.
* Several years of experience in applications or systems engineering within energy storage, consulting, development, or OEM sectors.
* Experience with utility-scale battery energy storage systems or solar PV plants.
* Knowledge of power electronics or power systems is advantageous.
* Strong technical skills, including understanding engineering schematics and technical reports.
* Familiarity with UK and European standards for energy storage and grid-interactive inverters.
* Global perspective with experience working across diverse cultures is beneficial.
