About BSCThe Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is involved in European HPC initiatives like PRACE and EuroHPC JU. The mission of BSC is to advance information technologies to facilitate scientific progress, combining HPC services and R&D in computational sciences with a diverse staff of over 1000 from 60 countries.
Context And MissionThe BSC is seeking a Research Engineer for our Computational Social Science and Humanities Laboratory, part of the AI Factory initiative. This project aims to accelerate AI adoption across industries, especially supporting SMEs and startups, leveraging the MareNostrum5 supercomputer's AI capabilities. The role involves implementing data curation practices aligned with FAIR principles and contributing to AI readiness strategies within a dynamic team environment.
Key Duties
Support development of AI-ready data assessment methodologies for organizations and public entities.
Implement data curation practices following FAIR principles, including metadata standards and dataset coordination.
Assist with data analysis using AI/ML models and advanced statistical techniques for AI readiness evaluation.
Develop research tools such as workflows and software add-ons to facilitate assessments.
Collaborate with BSC departments to bridge technical and research functions.
Document methodologies and contribute to training materials and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
Master's degree in Data Science, AI, or related field.
2-4 years experience in managing and analyzing large datasets for research.
Proficiency in Python and/or R, with experience in data analysis and statistical modeling.
Knowledge of data processing, cleaning, and preparation.
Experience with DDI metadata schema, data architecture, and governance.
Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
Experience with HPC systems.
Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and in teams, organized and diligent.
ConditionsThe position is based at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department, offering a full-time contract, a stimulating environment with advanced infrastructure, flexible hours, training, and benefits including health insurance and relocation support. The contract is open-ended, starting from 16/07/2025, with 23 vacation days plus additional holidays.
