About Us
You've seen many job posts, we know. This one might look like the others, but what we’re building, and the role you could play in it, is something we are very excited about.
We are
Bihar Batteries, a new-generation battery startup based in San Sebastian. We are building
sodium-ion storage systems, a critical technology that gives people, businesses, and communities control over their
energy .
Unlike lithium-ion, our sodium-ion technology is made with
locally abundant raw materials like salt. This means no critical supply chains, and a hopeful path towards
energy independence in Europe. This technology is at the heart of our product: a
modular battery system
that can power everything from off-grid mountain refuges to industrial companies and regions.
Here are some highlights of what we’ve achieved so far:
We have developed a
working sodium battery prototype
and
our proprietary sodium cells. We have partnered with
leading industrial companies and research centers
to scale up, such as CIC energiGUNE and Battera. We are backed by renowned European
investors
and have received
significant public support
to support our operations.
We believe batteries should not only be reliable, but also
well-designed, easy to use, and attractive.
This is why we are building a team that can turn these pieces into a product that people will be proud to use.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for an
Electronic Engineer
to lead the
control electronics
of our battery system. This involves integrating components of commercially available
Battery Management Systems and Energy Management Systems
into our product, as well as
developing new electronic components
for our system.
We are looking for a
curious and proactive ‘builder’
that is motivated with the challenge of joining an early stage company like Bihar, and that enjoys working in small, agile teams. We want you to feel that Bihar’s product is
your product,
and to be part of the company’s growth from a small group of individuals to an organization with international ambition.
What we Need
Degree in
Electronic Engineering, preferably with a Master’s in
Embedded Systems. Deep understanding of
Battery Management Systems (BMS)
and
Energy Management Systems (EMS), with an ability to assess, test, integrate and modify them, including
uC programming (C/C++). Communication protocols expertise
(ie. CAN Bus, Modbus, RS485, I2C, SPI, UART), and wireless WiFi/Bluetooth systems. Knowledge on Python/RTOS, and AI programming tools. Ability to develop
PCBs from scratch, including designing, prototyping, testing, and iterating (KiCad, schemes, Gerbers, BOM). Understand the functioning of
power electronic battery components
(DC/DC, DC/AC, AC/DC) and being able to integrate and work with them. Ability to work fluently in
Spanish and English. Based in
San Sebastian
or willingness to spend significant time in the city (hybrid position).
️
What You’ll Be Working On
Integrating commercial
BMS and EMS
components into Bihar’s modular sodium-ion stationary storage system. Designing, prototyping, and coordinating
the development of
new control electronic components, especially for BMS and EMS’s. Developing the necessary
firmware/software
for BMS and EMS components. Integrating
control electronic components
with
power electronic components
with a sense of product. Assisting in
product development
and
certification processes, such as Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). Interacting with
R&D,
product design
and
manufacturing
teams to scale electronics, as well as clients. Managing relationships with
suppliers
and product manufacturers. Assisting with
product management and certification. Hiring and mentoring new teammates as we grow.
What We Offer
Hybrid work flexibility, with the chance to combine remote focus time and in-person prototyping in our San Sebastian workspace. A
competitive salary
adapted to your experience, plus phantom shares. Brand new equipment
both to design as well as to prototype (you choose). ️ A
career plan
tailored to your experience and ambition. Training & education budget
(courses, books, travel to events). Referral bonus
for bringing in great people to the team. ✈️ An
annual company offsite
with the team to enjoy, talk and discuss company strategy.
