What are we looking for?
We are AI Labs team, the applied AI department at Insud Pharma. We are a team of 30 professionals (AI Engineers, Data Scientists, Backend Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and Product Managers) working across the full breadth of the company, building products and systems that directly inform and shape decision-making.
We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer with strong technical foundations who is eager to design, build, and scale robust backend systems that power real-world AI-driven products. You will work across diverse and complex domains (Clinical, R&D, manufacturing, and beyond), collaborating closely with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and DevOps to bring solutions from concept to production.
You will take ownership of backend services end-to-end—defining architectures, designing APIs, ensuring performance and scalability, and delivering reliable systems in production environments.
We are seeking someone curious enough to tackle complex engineering challenges (distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, observability), rigorous enough to apply best practices and make sound architectural decisions, and independent enough to deliver high-impact solutions with strong ownership.

Beyond the AI Engineering team, you will work alongside Data Scientists, DevOps Engineers, and Product Managers who are equally committed to delivering high-quality work.
We hold regular demo days where teams present their work, as well as whiteboard sessions where we tackle problems together. The cross-disciplinary dynamic is genuinely strong. The office is located in central Madrid (Chamberí, near Eloy Gonzalo), well connected and situated in a vibrant part of the city.
The challenge!
* Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs (FastAPI, Flask, or similar).
* Define and evolve scalable and efficient backend architectures.
* Build services considering concurrency, performance, and scalability.
* Collaborate with frontend teams to define clear, consistent, and versioned API contracts.
* Integrate backend services with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
* Ensure code quality through testing (unit and integration), code reviews, and best practices.
* Participate in CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
* Work with cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure) in production systems.
* Implement monitoring and observability (logs, metrics, alerts).
* Identify and resolve performance, scalability, and security issues.
* Contribute to technical standards and reusable components.
* Mentor and support junior developers.
* Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and DevOps teams.
* Participate in architectural decisions and contribute to the evolution of the tech stack.
* Ensure reliability, performance, and quality of backend services
What do you need?
* Fluency in Spanish and English.
* Strong experience in Python and backend development in production environments.
* Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks.
* Proven experience designing APIs and scalable backend architectures.
* Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
* Experience with Docker and containerized environments.
* Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) for development and deployment.
* Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.G., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
* Knowledge of authentication systems (OAuth2, JWT).
* Solid understanding of best practices (SOLID principles, clean architecture).
* Ability to work autonomously with strong ownership and results orientation
