FUNCTIONS
Our client is a pharmaceutical and biotechnological company specializing in prevention and diagnosis for animal and human health. They offer a broad range of innovative vaccines and advanced diagnostic services, with a strong international presence in over 40 countries, including subsidiaries, 11 diagnostic centres, and 6 production plants located in Europe (Spain) and America (Brazil). Their core focus is Research and Development, dedicating 15% of their annual turnover to R&D activities aimed at creating and applying scientific advances for high-quality vaccines. They also develop medical devices and traceability services to add value to their vaccination solutions.
We seek a talented Fully or Partially Qualified European Patent Attorney for our headquarters in Girona (Spain).
Responsibilities
1. Assess innovative R&D developments with scientific staff and business units, providing IP advisory services.
2. Prepare patent landscape and FTO analyses for EU and global R&D pipelines.
3. Perform state-of-the-art and patentability search reports.
4. Maintain internal IP databases.
5. Manage global prosecution of patent rights.
6. Draft and handle oppositions, appeal proceedings, and observations before the EPO.
7. Provide validity opinions and infringement advice to R&D and business units.
8. Establish confidentiality actions to maintain IP security.
9. Provide technical support for business development initiatives.
Requirements
1. EQE (European Qualifying Examination) fully or partly passed (mandatory).
2. Solid scientific background, such as a bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, or related life sciences.
3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, especially in drafting and prosecuting patent applications and preparing patentability and FTO reports.
4. Experience with biologicals and biotech products is preferred.
5. Excellent command of English and Spanish; knowledge of French and German is a plus.
6. Strong technical, writing, communication, and analytical skills.
7. Ability to analyze large data volumes to support commercial and strategic decisions.
8. Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills to oversee IP work plans.
9. High responsibility, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to prioritize workloads effectively.
