We are looking for detail‑oriented, organized, and responsible individuals eager to apply macroeconomics and forecasting skills to solve real‑world problems. The intern will work in forecasting within Amazon Private Brands, developing models to improve the success of new product launches.
Internship Program
Our PhD Economist Internship Program offers hands‑on experience in applied economics, supported by mentorship, structured feedback, and professional development. Interns work on real business and research problems, building skills that prepare them for full‑time economist roles at Amazon and beyond. You will build data sets and perform applied econometric analysis collaborating with economists, scientists, and product managers.
Position Details
Full‑time internship: 40 hours per week. Compensation is awarded on an hourly basis. Starting salary ranges from $129,200.00 to $174,700.00 USD annually for eligible locations (San Diego, WA Seattle).
Team
The Amazon Private Brands Intelligence team applies machine learning, statistics, econometrics, and economics to solve high‑impact business problems, develop prototypes for Amazon‑scale science solutions, and optimize key business functions. The interdisciplinary team leverages engineers, scientists, and economists in areas such as pricing, discovery, negotiation, forecasting, supply chain, and product selection/development.
Responsibilities
* Apply macroeconomic forecasting and econometric methods to develop models that support new product launch success.
* Build data sets and perform applied econometric analysis in collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
* Translate analysis into actionable recommendations and write applied chapters or reports.
Basic Qualifications
* Knowledge of statistical software such as R or Python.
* Experience in econometrics (program evaluation, forecasting, time series, panel data, or high‑dimensional problems), economic theory, and quantitative methods.
* Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.
* Enrolled in at least the third year of a PhD program in Economics or a related quantitative field and not currently on the job market.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in SQL.
