Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Film and Media Arts, Department of Media, Communications and Journalism
Since 1928, the Media, Communications and Journalism Department has prepared thousands of students for professional media careers. The department currently offers courses in advertising, broadcast and digital journalism, film, photography, public relations and video production.
Position Summary: The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as:
MCJ 4: Writing for Visual Media
MCJ 15: Filmmaking
MCJ 17: Photojournalism
MCJ 114W: Screenwriting
or other classes that may be identified as needed to fulfill the educational goals of current students
Instructional Responsibilities: Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system‑wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2. Instructors are responsible for the preparation, delivery, conduction, proctoring, and grading (as appropriate) of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e. asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Conditional Appointment: Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and the California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work”, which prioritises tenure‑line faculty before lecturer appointees.
Eligibility: Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States. California State University, Fresno does not sponsor temporary faculty for work visas.
Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience within the salary range. The salary range for temporary faculty with a Master’s degree is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Actual monthly salary is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per academic term.
Anticipated Semester: The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; those wishing to remain must reapply thereafter.
Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications: Education from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent – a PhD or MFA in media, communication, and journalism or a similar field with emphasis in film/media arts.
Experiences Required: Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications: Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations. Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
