The Earth Sciences Department (BSC-ES) focuses on atmospheric emissions, air quality, mineral dust, climate variability and change, and Earth system services. The Atmospheric Composition Group develops a modelling capability to investigate the impacts of dust and wildfire emissions on nutrient deposition to the ocean.
Key responsibilities include:
* Contribute to model developments related to the atmospheric nutrient cycle in Earth System models, improving the representation of natural aerosol sources.
* Design model experiments and run them on HPC systems.
* Gather observations and evaluate model experiments.
* Develop original research and analysis strategies.
* Participate in collaborative projects with partner institutions.
* Present results at international meetings and publish in high-impact peer‑reviewed journals.
* Contribute ideas for new research projects.
Requirements:
* PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Meteorology, Physics, or a related discipline.
* Advanced understanding of atmospheric aerosols and the Earth System components and their interactions.
* Experience in atmospheric, climate, chemistry, or aerosol model developments.
* Excellent computing skills in high‑level languages (FORTRAN valued) and experience with UNIX/Linux, scripting (bash), NetCDF, and scientific software/tools (CDO, NCO, Python, R).
* Experience with Earth System Models, climate data analysis, and version control systems such as GitLab or GitHub is valued.
