Workflow Automation Developer
for our Barcelona Office.

The backbone of our automation initiative is Flowable, a Java-based open-source workflow engine executing BPMN 2.0 business processes.
As a Workflow Automation Developer with a focus on Flowable, you will be part of the Business Process Automation (BPA) team – a trusted partner for innovative and challenging automation needs. Our international team operates across Spain, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Singapore. This role offers the opportunity to design, build, and operate robust workflow solutions that support and optimize our international banking operations, both internally and in collaboration with clients and partners.
In this ambitious role, your responsibilities will include:
Collaboration & Delivery
Work in agile development environments (e.g. Scrum, Kanban). Collaborate closely with business analysts, process designers, and other developers to translate requirements into technical solutions. Contribute to solution design decisions and technical documentation. Support deployments and continuous improvements using established DevOps pipelines
Workflow & Backend Development
Design, implement, and maintain workflow solutions using Flowable (BPMN 2.0, CMMN where applicable). Develop and extend backend services using Java and Spring Boot. Implement integrations via REST APIs with internal systems and third-party services. Ensure workflow solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
Quality & Reliability
Write clean, testable code and contribute to automated testing strategies. Perform technical analysis, debugging, and root cause analysis for workflow-related issues. Resolve incidents, defects, and performance issues in existing workflow applications.
Change Management, Tool Support & Incident Management
Facilitate change management by supporting teams in adopting new processes through training, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives. Provide tool support and implement enhancements to improve performance and functionality. Resolve incidents and defects in existing BPM solutions
Your profile
To be successful in this role, you should have:
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field. A minimum of 2–4 years of professional experience in workflow automation, backend development or similar technical roles. Hands-on experience working with agile methodologies and cross-functional agile teams.
Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Flowable or comparable BPM platforms (e.g. Camunda). Solid knowledge of BPMN 2.0 (CMMN is a plus). Backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot. Experience with RESTful API design and integration. Working knowledge of relational databases (SQL, Oracle or similar). Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices (e.g. GitLab, OpenShift, CI/CD pipelines).
Nice-to-Have
Experience in the financial services or banking domain Knowledge of Avaloq Core Banking System German language skills Exposure to test automation or workflow testing strategies BPM or Flowable-related certifications
Communication and Stakeholder Management
Excellent proactive communication skills and a team-oriented mindset, with the ability to collaborate effectively in an international environment. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
