Scope of WorkThe Commissioning Engineer (CxE) is responsible for testing and validating AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure. Key systems include:
Medium and low voltage power systems
Generators
UPS
HVAC (Air Handlers / Exhaust Fans / VFD)
Chilled Water Systems
Building Management Systems (BMS)
Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
Testing and balancing
Pumps and Hydronic systems
Key Job ResponsibilitiesAs the Commissioning Engineer, you will provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center infrastructure, including reviewing design documents, managing vendors, leading Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and ensuring compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements. You will produce regular reporting of progress and metrics, lead multiple projects simultaneously, and manage project budgets.
You will also take ownership of troubleshooting technical issues, coordinating with on‐site teams, and communicating lessons learned to drive program improvement.
A Day in the LifeTypical projects involve coordinating with engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams to schedule and prioritize tasks. You will oversee commissioning vendors, evaluate functional tests, document findings, and, if necessary, exasculate issues to stakeholders. Upon project completion, you will disseminate lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‐critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
4+ years of commissioning experience.
5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning experience with electrical and mechanical systems.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer License.
Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
Experience carrying design concepts through development and deployment.
Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
BenefitsThe base salary range for this position is $116,800.00 – $160,000.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‐on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
