Head of Computer Center (f/m/d) (future IT Services)

The Data Center department is responsible for IT operations, developing digital services, and the overall IT strategy of the university. As Head of Data Center, you will play a key role in implementing the IT strategy, managing the IT infrastructure, and leading a dedicated team. You will be the central contact for IT matters and advise university management on strategic IT issues. The role offers scope for strategic realignment of the IT department.
Your main areas of responsibility:
* Strategic & overarching tasks:
* Advising the Vice President for University Development and Digitalization in her role as Presidential CIO
* Developing and implementing the IT strategy in close coordination with the CIO
* Further developing the IT service portfolio, aligning it with university needs, managing IT infrastructure, and implementing security concepts
* Budget responsibility, IT controlling, and resource optimization
* Operational & management tasks:
* Managing the current four-person team, developing team structures and processes
* Acting as an escalation point for 2nd level support
* Responsibility for IT security, data backup, data protection, and emergency management
* Advancing technological innovations, procedures, and operational security
* Planning, managing, and controlling departmental goals
* Developing and monitoring service level agreements
* Managing IT projects collaboratively with the CIO and DTO
* Proactive communication within the team, across the university, and with partners
Your profile:
* Completed relevant university degree (Master's or diploma) in computer science or a comparable field, or a Bachelor's/FH diploma with at least four years of professional IT experience
* Management experience in strategic and operational roles is advantageous
* Extensive specialist knowledge and practical experience in IT sectors such as Networks, Linux/Windows Server, Cloud technologies/infrastructures, RHEL/CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu
* Solid knowledge in servers, storage, virtualization, IT operations, service desk, security, data protection, and network infrastructure (TCP/IP, switching, routing, firewalls, VPN)
* Experience in coordinating IT projects and managing multiple projects effectively
* Excellent German language skills and good English skills
* Experience with university structures is a plus
* High initiative, analytical thinking, service orientation, negotiation skills, responsibility, and excellent communication skills
* Ability to work well in a team
