First-of-its-kind chip patterning technology. Backed by top-tier investment partners across the globe. Generous relocation assistance to reach the brightest minds in this space. We're supporting an VC-backed startup, who are developing a novel lithography platform that will re-invent semiconductor manufacturing through atom-based chip patterning. With extensive backing from some huge investment partners, they're now scaling up, creating a need for an Optimization Engineer to join their mask design team in Barcelona, Spain. Please note that whilst this role is based in Barcelona, Spain, the team will offer generous support with relocation costs, to ensure a seamless transition into the business. What experience will I need? PhD or Masters degree in Applied Mathematics, Physics, CompSci or a similar field. Proven knowledge of nonlinear optimization, numerical methods and constraint handling. Background in optimization within real-world or simulated environments. Mathematical foundations in linear algebra, calculus and numerical analysis. Practical familiarity with least-squares optimization methods. Programming proficiency, using things like Julia, Python or C++. Any knowledge of solver libraries (IPOPT, KNITRO, SNOPT etc.) would be useful. Any GPU programming or expertise in HPC would be beneficial. What will my day-to-day look like? This position supports the development of advanced nonlinear optimization solutions that are essential to the business’ lithography systems. It focuses on the formulation, implementation and scaling of numerical optimization methods, used to solve highly complex engineering problems in collaboration with other hardware/software engineers and physicists internally. General responsibilities include: Optimization Algorithm Development: Designing & implementing large-scale non-linear optimization algorithms. Mathematical Modelling: Translating physical phenomena & engineering challenges into mathematical optimization problems. Solver & Code Integration: Interfacing with solver libraries such as IPOPT, or in-house tools, using appropriate modelling languages or APIs. Performance Tuning: Debugging and profiling optimization routines for speed, numerical accuracy, and stability. Testing & Validation: Designing comprehensive test cases and performing validation to ensure accuracy and robustness. Inter & Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Working closely with physics and hardware teams to ensure strong alignment between mathematical models and real-world systems. What do I get in return? As well as a competitive salary in line with your experience, the team advocates for flexible working and try to accommodate all personal circumstances where they can. Their benefits package is also tailored, giving you an annual wellness allowance and a bunch of personal development opportunities, on top of regular appraisals. Every early-employee is entitled to equity, and they offer generous assistance with relocating to the area, to ensure you’re comfortable with the move from day one. How do I apply? Interested?
