Head of Internal Audit
Company: International payments company – launching operations in Spain
Location: Madrid- must live in Madrid
Work Model: Remote initially → hybrid later
We are looking for an Internal Audit Function to oversee internal audit activities within a regulated payments / e-money environment. This role is key to ensuring the effectiveness of the internal control framework and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
The position will act as the internal point of contact for audit matters, particularly in the context of outsourced internal audit arrangements, in line with EBA Outsourcing Guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the internal responsible person for the Internal Audit function .
* Monitor the performance of the external internal audit provider, ensuring quality and effectiveness.
* Receive, review, and challenge audit reports .
* Report relevant findings and key risks to the Board and senior management .
* Ensure that remediation actions are properly defined, tracked, and implemented.
* Support and strengthen the internal control framework in coordination with Risk and Compliance.
* Ensure compliance with EBA Outsourcing Guidelines and other applicable regulations.
* Act as a point of contact during regulatory interactions, audits, and inspections .
* Promote a strong governance and control culture across the organization.
Requirements
* Experience in internal audit or internal control functions within a payments company, e-money institution, or financial services environment .
* Experience/knowledge in the e-money and payments industry (banking background also considered).
* Familiarity with internal control functions in regulated companies.
* Experience overseeing or interacting with outsourced audit providers is a strong plus.
* Knowledge of EBA Outsourcing Guidelines .
* Experience reporting to senior management and/or Board-level bodies .
* Proven supervisory experience (team or provider oversight).
* Strong analytical and communication skills.
* Fluency in English and Spanish.
