About BSC

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC‑CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and hosts EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large‑scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. BSC’s mission is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress, combining HPC service provision with R&D; in computational science across life, earth and engineering sciences.

Context And Mission

In the framework of the R+D+I Networks Programme (AGAUR), BSC coordinates X4HPC, a strategic initiative that promotes the transfer of high‑performance computing technologies to society. X4HPC seeks to valorize research results across sectors such as energy, biomedicine, aerospace and quantum computing, with a special focus on open‑source solutions as vehicles for innovation and social impact. The role works closely with the X4HPC Business Developer to bridge the gap between HPC research and the productive sector.

Key Duties

- Support the Business Developer in executing and monitoring the X4HPC network’s work plan and milestones.
- Identify market‑potential research results and define go‑to‑market strategies and competitive advantages.
- Maintain a curated catalogue of the network’s technological portfolio (software, datasets, hardware designs) to improve visibility.
- Support the “Innovation Journey” program, guiding research groups toward spin‑off formation and technology‑based companies.
- Connect research groups with key actors, including investors, business clusters and European initiatives such as EuroHPC and Chips JU.
- Assist in organizing training on intellectual property rights, commercialization strategies, licensing, spin‑off creation and business skills.
- Advocate the transfer of open‑source technologies and build an international community of developers and users.
- Identify synergies with other R+D+I networks to optimise shared resources such as joint training sessions and internationalisation activities.
- Collaborate with the X4HPC Communications specialist in executing communication and dissemination activities, including events, exhibitions, conferences and community outreach promoting HPC‑enabled technologies.

Requirements

- Education
- Business‑related degree OR
- Engineering or science degree with demonstrated knowledge in innovation management.

- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience

- Experience or strong interest in technology transfer and/or open innovation activities.
- Experience in innovation management.
- Familiarity with marketing or business development.
- Understanding of the HPC ecosystem, AI or deep‑tech frameworks.
- Familiarity with the deep‑tech, innovation and entrepreneurship Catalan ecosystems.
- Familiarity with Catalan and European innovation ecosystems (start‑ups, clusters and venture capital).

- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience

- Experience with IPR management, open‑source licensing (software and hardware) and FAIR data principles (highly valued).
- Knowledge of European strategic initiatives (EuroHPC, Chips Act, AI Factory) is a plus.
- Experience collaborating with private companies or participating in spin‑off creation.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value propositions.
- Capacity to translate high‑level strategic goals into operational actions across diverse institutions.

- Competences

- Fluency in Catalan, English and Spanish (essential).
- Critical thinking and creative problem‑solving.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Agile mindset and willingness to adapt to new tools and fast learning cycles.

Conditions

- Location: BSC, Director’s Department.
- Contract: Full‑time (37.5 h/week) with versátil working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance and relocation support.
- Duration: Open‑ended contract linked to project and budget duration.
- Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + observance of 24th and 31st December under collective agreement.
- Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, aligned with Barcelona cost of living.
- Starting date: 01 May 2026.

Recruitment Process

The selection consists of two phases: curriculum analysis (40 % weight) and interview (60 % weight), with a minimum of 30 % required to proceed. The panel is composed of at least three people, with at least 25 % representation of women.
