**Description**

**ISP School Caretaker**
**Purpose of Role**

- To manage and maintain the school premises of the School and ensure that they are clean, secure, safe and well maintained including emptying bins and watering the plants.
- Co-operate and work closely with the facilities manager to ensure that all necessary work is carried out in accordance to Health and Safety requirements at the school.
- Maintain good relations with parents and show professional conduct at all times
- Prioritise work schedule to ensure that all work is carried out in a reasonable timeframe and deal efficiently with pre planned maintenance, day to day premises requirements and problems that may arise.
- Liaise with external contractors to ensure that all facilities are working correctly and will not hinder the safety of the school community and requests quotes for job repairs wherever necessary (3 quotes are required for each repair and must be authorised prior to confirmation)

**Key Responsibilities**

- Adhere to global **ISP Principles** and follow the criteria set out by **International Schools Partnership**

- Under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher, Facilities Manager and the Head of Administration carry out the professional duties of a school caretaker.

- Interact with teachers and other staff members to answer any questions or resolve issues with regards to classroom/ school repairs.

- Adhere to the school Health and Safety policy when receiving visitors to school

- Maintain appropriate record keeping

- Assisting with setting up facilities such as chairs, tables or other school equipment for schools events, meetings

- Monitor premises for any hazards and carry out repairs or report problems to the Headteacher, Facilities manager and the Head of Administration and provide them with status reports.

- Perform regular controls on water sanitation at school including, drinking water and PH levels and water cleanliness of swimming pool

- Ensure that all equipment for water control are working correctly

- Ensure that all external contractors adhere to the School´s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and that all work is carried out correctly and to the highest standard.

**Operational Responsibilities**

- Adhere to and promote school policies and procedures, Health and Safety, Safeguarding etc

- Work with the Headteacher, Facilities Manager and Head of Administration and share ideas on good practice

- Keep up to date with developments within the school calendar

- Be adaptable with working hours to ensure that school is open and closed during events, meetings even if these are out of normal working hours and respond to emergency call outs and take action, as required.

- Participate in continued Professional Development

- Be an active member of the school community to support its vision, school values and its dedication to constantly “get better” and promote amazing learning opportunities.

** - Holidays and/ or absence of leave should be taken in agreement and negotiation with the Headteacher and Facilities Manager and should be taken with prior authorisation.

**This role requires significant periods of lone working and as such, the postholder will need to display a high degree of responsibility and professionalism in their work. The ability to use own initiative is essential.**

**Skills, Qualifications and Experience**

- Minimum three years’ experience working in a caretaker or similar position.
- Excellent computer skills and an aptitude for learning new systems.
- Full driving license

**ISP Skills and Competencies**

- A good level of English is preferred but not essential. Spanish is compulsory.
- Good presentation skills
- Articulate, communicative
- Organisation skills: Well organised and able to prioritise tasks
- Customer Service
- Critical thinking
- Ability to initiate opportunities for self and others and to find solutions to ensure tasks are completed within specified timescales
- Understanding of school roles, needs and responsibilities
- Ability to carry out basic building repairs, painting, decorating and grounds maintenance
- Willingness to undertake appropriate Professional Development
