Offer Description
IE University's School of Science and Technology invites applications for a full‐time faculty position in Environmental Sciences with a specialization in Environmental Chemistry, Analytics & potentially Toxicology. We seek a scientist focused on emerging contaminants and evidence‐based risk assessment, who advances the state of the art in analytical chemistry -including LC/GC‐MS(/MS), high‐resolution MS for suspect and non‐target screening (HRMS), and ICP‐MS- and connects occurrence and fate data to actionable exposure and risk evaluations across water, soil, air, and biota. Candidates who integrate method development (e.g., passive sampling, microextraction, green analytical chemistry), transformation products, and data fusion (remote sensing, sensor networks, omics/toxicology readouts) are especially encouraged to apply. Senior candidates with a profile in ecotoxicology (e.g., mechanistic toxicology, AOPs, mixture toxicity, in vitro bioassays) are additionally welcome.

We value candidates eager to collaborate in applied research with IE's Impact Xcelerator and external partners (public agencies, utilities, NGOs, and industry), especially on contaminant monitoring networks, PFAS and other CECs, wastewater‐based epidemiology, environmental forensics, human and ecological risk assessments, and nature‐based/engineering solutions for mitigation. The ability to contribute to multidisciplinary initiatives that translate chemical measurements into science‐based policy and management decisions will be key to success.

Key Responsibilities

Teach at undergraduate and graduate levels (English) in Environmental Chemistry, Instrumental Methods, Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Pollution Analysis & Assessment, and related areas.

Conduct high‐impact, externally funded research on emerging contaminants (e.g., PFAS, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, industrial chemicals, micro/nanoplastics and associated additives), suspect/non‐target screening, fate and transformation (including metabolites and transformation products), exposure modeling and probabilistic risk assessment, and decision‐support tools for regulators and practitioners.

Supervise and mentor students across undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. programs; build an inclusive lab culture that spans field/lab analytics and computational data science (chemometrics, ML for spectra/feature annotation).
Collaborate with research and societal partners to co‐design and deploy monitoring pipelines, chemical indicators, and risk metrics; contribute to method validation and inter‐laboratory exercises where appropriate.

Contribute to curriculum development, embedding reproducible research, FAIR data, QA/QC and method validation (blanks, surrogates, spikes, MDLs); keep courses aligned with emerging trends (e.g., HRMS‐based non‐target screening, ion‐mobility MS, AI/ML‐assisted spectral deconvolution, exposomics, and green analytical chemistry).

Participate in academic service and contribute to the strategic growth of the School of Science and Technology.
