Senior Project Manager – Legacy Platform Decommissioning
We are looking for a Senior Project Manager, based in Spain and working 100% remotely, to support one of the leading global pharmaceutical companies.
In this role, you will lead the end‑to‑end decommissioning of a legacy platform, coordinating cross‑functional teams to design, build, and test all required interfaces in the new environment. This is a highly hands‑on delivery role, driving tangible outcomes, managing complex dependencies, and ensuring a seamless transition while maintaining full business continuity throughout the migration.
Key Accountabilities
* Lead the decommissioning of the legacy platform and migration to the new solution.
* Coordinate cross‑functional teams to design, build, and test required interfaces.
* Resolve blockers quickly and maintain delivery momentum.
* Ensure smooth coexistence between legacy and new platforms during transition.
* Manage risks, cutover activities, and go‑live with minimal business impact.
* Track dependencies, align stakeholders, and support decision‑making.
* Oversee budget, resource allocation, and vendor costs.
* Execute controlled shutdown of legacy components and handle data archival.
* Drive a results‑focused delivery culture and ensure progress toward milestones.
Required Experience & Skills
* Strong technical understanding to collaborate with architects, developers, and infrastructure teams.
* Proven experience in platform migrations or system decommissioning.
* Ability to influence and coordinate cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
* Hands‑on, problem‑solving mindset and comfort diving into technical detail.
* High level of English (spoken and written).
* Background in data platforms, enterprise integration, or application modernization programmes.
* Understanding of API design, data integration patterns, ETL processes, and cloud platform architectures.
* Experience working in regulated industries with compliance and data governance requirements.

We are currently looking for a Senior Project Manager to strengthen our team for a large industrial project located in Italy, but with the office in Madrid, Spain.
As a Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of large industrial projects, acting as the client’s trusted partner on site. You will lead the project through all phases, ensuring safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives are met while coordinating multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
You will be involved in projects ranging from major brownfield and greenfield industrial developments to complex revamping and expansion works.
What is the role About?
* Take full responsibility for all project phases, from early consulting to full project execution and close‑out of industrial and civil projects.
* Lead planning, budget control, cost estimation, quality management, permitting, procurement, and contract administration.
* Act as the main interface with the client, contractors, authorities, and internal engineering teams.
* Manage project documentation and reporting, including weekly site meetings, minutes, and monthly progress reports.
* Review, validate, and manage contractor certifications, progress claims, and variations.
* Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, ensuring adherence to milestones and contractual obligations.
* Review and integrate contractor schedules into a master project planning, adapting it to site constraints and execution realities.
* Supervise on‑site and off‑site activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and local legislation.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and support decision‑making under time and cost pressure.
* Demonstrate flexibility and ownership by handling complex, cross‑functional challenges and prioritizing tasks effectively.
Requirements
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Industrial, Mechanical or related field).
* 15–20 years of proven experience in industrial projects as Project Manager or Project Director.
* Strong background in large‑scale industrial projects, preferably within primary industry, metals, mining, or steel.
* Solid on‑site construction and execution experience on complex industrial sites.
* Fluent English and Italian is a must, and Spanish is an asset.
* Driver License B.
* Knowledge in PC‑literate MS Word and Excel and PowerPoint applications, MS Project, AutoCAD.
* Strong leadership and team management capabilities.

About the Role
Key Responsibilities
* Program Leadership: Drive end‑to‑end planning, execution, and delivery of multi‑phase R&D projects; maintain integrated timelines, budgets, and scope; manage dependencies across discovery, preclinical, and translational teams.
* Data‑Driven Decision Support: Use BioTuring to synthesize single‑cell/omics insights (e.g., target validation, biomarker hypotheses) and BenchSci to optimize experimental plans (e.g., reagent selection, literature evidence), integrating outputs into project charters and decision logs.
* Stakeholder Management: Facilitate cross‑functional working groups (Biology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Translational, Clinical Ops, Legal, Finance, Procurement, Quality). Align teams on milestones, risks, and success criteria.
* Risk & Issue Management: Build and maintain RAID logs; run scenario planning and mitigation strategies; elevate critical path issues with clear, solution‑oriented options.
* Governance & Reporting: Prepare materials for governance forums; deliver concise status updates, dashboards, and readouts for executive audiences.
* Budget & Vendor Oversight: Track burn rates; manage SOWs and vendor performance (CROs, data/platform providers); ensure compliance with internal quality and data governance standards.
* Process Excellence: Champion PMO best practices (stage gates, change control, lessons learned); drive continuous improvement and knowledge management.
* Enablement & Training: Upskill project teams on effective use of BioTuring and BenchSci; develop quick‑start guides and SOPs for consistent, high‑impact use.
Qualifications
Required
* 7–10+ years of progressive project/program management experience within biotech, pharma, or life‑science tech; strong foundation in discovery or translational R&D.
* Demonstrated, hands‑on experience with BenchSci (e.g., AI‑assisted antibody selection, experimental design insights, literature evidence mapping) embedded in planning and trial‑readiness workflows.
* Proven track record driving complex, cross‑functional projects to milestone delivery (IND‑enabling studies, target triage, biomarker strategy, or platform validation).
* Mastery of core PM skills: WBS, critical path, integrated schedules, cost management, risk mitigation, change control, and stakeholder engagement.
* Strong communication: able to translate scientific complexity into executive‑ready updates and actionable work plans.
* Proficiency with project tools (e.g., Smartsheet/MS Project/Jira), collaboration suites (M365), and data visualization (Power BI/Tableau).
Preferred
* Advanced degree in life sciences (MS/PhD) or MBA with strong scientific literacy.
* Experience in single‑cell/omics data environments, target discovery pipelines, or translational biomarker programs.
* Familiarity with validated systems (GxP context), data governance, and privacy/compliance in R&D.
* Certification: PMP, PgMP, or PRINCE2.
* Strategic systems thinker with bias for action.
