Thomson Reuters is looking for a sports correspondent to cover Iberia, providing in-depth coverage of all aspects of Spanish and Portuguese sport and sports news.
The Iberian region hosts some of the biggest soccer clubs globally, top tennis players, athletes, and sports personalities; and features elite golf, cycling, and motor sports events.
This role involves producing action-led coverage at national and international levels, with a broader scope. Real Madrid and Barcelona are just two clubs with enormous global followings, and the national team remains a major force.
The sports correspondent will tell the stories of these clubs and the national team from various angles, with authority and flair. This requires developing or strengthening contacts within those clubs and leagues to stay ahead of sports news angles, as well as reporting on matches.
The candidate will be a source of ideas for spot news, interviews, features, and more. This is an excellent opportunity to excel across diverse journalistic disciplines, from quick briefs to detailed investigative stories.
Reuters operates as a fully integrated multimedia organization, so the ability to produce video and take photographs, collaborating with specialists in those areas, is essential.
The role also involves working closely with our teams in Madrid, Lisbon, and Barcelona, where cooperation is vital. Additionally, overseeing coverage of Portuguese sports, which also offers rich story opportunities with international appeal, is part of the role. A good knowledge and interest in all sports, especially football across Europe, are expected.
