We are seeking a highly experienced Fractional Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to provide strategic technology leadership for our AI-driven medical device initiatives. This contract-based role is ideal for a senior technologist who thrives in early-stage or growth-focused medtech environments, offering technical guidance, oversight, and strategic direction on a part-time or project-driven basis.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and refine the company’s technology strategy, ensuring alignment with clinical, regulatory, and commercial goals.
* Advise on architecture and design decisions for AI models, device software, and data systems to meet medical-grade standards.
* Oversee technical compliance with MHRA, FDA, ISO 13485, GDPR, and other relevant frameworks.
* Support fundraising activities by providing credible technical insights and contributing to investor presentations.
* Establish scalable processes for R&D, product development, and data governance.
* Mentor internal engineering and data science teams; recruit or coordinate external technical resources as needed.
* Guide technology risk assessments and help prioritize projects that accelerate regulatory approval and market launch.
* Provide periodic executive updates and recommendations to the CEO and leadership team.
Qualifications and Experience
* Extensive experience in leading technical development for AI and medical device companies (fractional or permanent).
* Strong record of designing AI/ML systems for regulated environments.
* Familiarity with hardware/software integration and interoperability in healthcare systems.
* Solid understanding of medical device lifecycle—from concept through clinical validation and commercialization.
* Expertise in managing distributed technical teams and outsourced development partners.
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
Engagement Structure
* Consultancy contract (fractional): typically 1–2 days per week or project-based milestones.
