About the Role
Reporting to the R&D Director, this position performs a broad range of laboratory work requiring application of professional judgment in the selection of specialized methods and techniques, and their application to specific tasks. Provides project updates and performs duties in research and development, including the ability to execute specialized lab techniques and maintain good laboratory documentation practices.
Key Accountabilities
1. Performs an expanded range of laboratory procedures and experiments
2. Periodically communicates problems and progress to the supervisor
3. Occasionally communicates status updates and results across the organization
4. Presents results to senior/research staff
5. Selects appropriate experimental and analytical methods and defines protocols
6. Schedules own and team tasks and activities according to assignments and priorities
7. Detects deviations in results and potential problems; recommends modifications to protocols or methodologies to identify causes and resolve issues
8. Under supervision and approval of the supervisor, writes specialized laboratory procedures and reviews existing procedures and methods
9. Compiles and interprets experimental data, performs calculations, and prepares graphs for discussion with the supervisor
10. Writes research papers, reports, reviews, and technical summaries
11. Reviews electronic or paper laboratory notebooks ensuring all data is accurately recorded in accordance with guidelines and procedures
Minimum Knowledge & Experience
Education:
1. Required: Bachelor's degree (Licenciatura) in Biological or related sciences, plus extensive work experience
2. Valuable: Any additional degree higher than the required bachelor's degree
Experience:
1. Required: Basic knowledge of biological and chemical laboratory procedures and ability to operate laboratory equipment
2. Valuable: Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and experience in molecular diagnostic development; professional industrial experience in scientific or in vitro diagnostic research
Additional Skills / Knowledge
1. Software: Proficiency in basic software tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); SAP knowledge preferred
2. Language: Fluency in Spanish or Catalan; advanced English (reading, speaking, writing)
