About the School - The British School of Barcelona (Castelldefels)

The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is a great school in a wonderful location. We are an HMC school and were judged by a recent BSO (British Schools Overseas) inspection to be outstanding in every area, including quality of education, safeguarding, pupil welfare and academic outcomes.

BSB is a large, very popular school for children aged 3 to 18. Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, and we offer a wide range of GCSEs, A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, all alongside a significant enrichment programme.

Over 2000 pupils from more than 74 nationalities attend the school and over 315 staff work at BSB. We are based in three locations, two just outside the city of Barcelona – in Castelldefels, where we have a Primary, Secondary and Pre‑University campus, and in the cosmopolitan town of Sitges, where we have another Primary campus. BSB City is in the heart of the city of Barcelona itself with a Foundation campus (built September 2021), and a brand‑new main campus which opened in September 2023.

The growth of the school has been accompanied by significant investment over recent years, including the building of a state‑of‑the‑art Pre‑University Centre (Nexus), a full‑sized 4G rugby and football pitch, dedicated STEM facilities and the new BSB City campuses. Barcelona is a wonderful place to live, combining an amazing city with beach and mountains nearby. The quality of life is excellent with a mild climate and year‑round sunshine.

The school now has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Secondary English Teacher to join our fantastic team.

About the Role

For September 2026, we are looking to recruit a permanent, full‑time Teacher of English for our BSB Castelldefels campus. We offer English Language and Literature at GCSE, Language A and B at IB Diploma level and English Literature A level. Exam results at GCSE, A level and IB are consistently excellent and English is a popular subject at all levels in the school.

As a BSB teacher you will be expected to follow the guidelines set out in the Cognita Teaching Toolkit. This includes clear expectations for planning, assessment, relationships, lesson delivery and wider professional duties.

You will contribute towards helping to deliver the whole‑school strategic priorities. You will also be expected to do anything reasonable required by the Headteacher and Principal.

* As a teacher, you will:
* Teach English up to at least IGCSE (and the ability to teach IBDP would be an advantage) modelling and delivering outstanding practice in your own subject area in an innovative and inspirational way.
* Have high expectations of all students and track progress based on relevant data, observations and a wide range of assessments.
* Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour and standards of work.
* Assess students’ work in line with school policies and procedures, referring to student performance targets.
* Wider faculty contribution
* Support the delivery of the vision for your Faculty and BSB more widely. This should translate into high quality learning sequences which engage students, develop student knowledge and skills and help students to become independent learners.
* Support the collaborative planning within your Faculty, developing an exciting and engaging curriculum.
* Support robust and formative assessment systems within your Faculty and support the programme for intervention.
* Contribute towards professional development conversations of others within your team and actively seek opportunities for your own personal development.
* Other responsibilities
* To continue your personal development and participate in the school’s staff development programme.
* To engage actively with the school’s performance management programme.
* To attend staff meetings, open evenings, and parents’ evenings. To attend morning assemblies and staff morning briefing unless on duty.
* As a tutor you should support the pastoral care for your form group, seeking to help individuals’ character development.

Join a team of dedicated, enthusiastic, inspirational individuals who appreciate the rigor of the English curriculum, but embrace the freedoms offered by an international setting, to plan for, and deliver outstanding results for our students. A commitment to the wider life of the school and our enrichment programme, is also an expectation of the job.
