Overview We are accepting applications for a position in quantum simulation and computation with ultracold atoms in optical tweezers. This is a unique opportunity for highly motivated graduates in physics or related fields to gain research experience in one of DIPC's high-profile research teams. The project aims to develop an atomic quantum processor based on dysprosium atoms in programmable optical tweezers and to explore neutral-atom quantum solvers with novel atomic species. The work involves collaboration between DIPC and the University of Innsbruck, and the role offers the chance to shape the experimental design and acquire expertise across the full stack of experimental techniques involving ultracold and Rydberg atoms.
The PhD project will be conducted in the Quantum Technology Team at DIPC, in collaboration with the Dipolar Quantum Gas group at Innsbruck and IQOQI at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, with opportunities for research visits to Austrian institutions.
Responsibilities Contribute to the design, construction, and operation of an atomic quantum processor using dysprosium atoms in optical tweezers.
Work on the development and optimization of experimental techniques involving ultracold and Rydberg atoms.
Collaborate with international teams to exchange ideas and advance the project goals.
Document procedures and results, and participate in regular project discussions and reviews.
Qualifications Knowledge of atom physics and quantum physics.
Experience in experimental atomic physics is an advantage.
Working conditions Contract duration: 1 year, with the possibility to extend up to 3 years.
Estimated annual gross salary: Salary commensurate with qualifications and pay scales.
Target start date: 2025/04/01.
We provide a stimulating research environment and opportunities for professional career development.
We promote a diverse and inclusive environment and welcome applicants regardless of age, disability, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
