We are looking for a Web Developer & AI Engineer for an European Institution in Seville. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining digital tools and platforms that enable efficient collection, processing, analysis, and communication of data and technical content in support of EU product and sustainability policy.
Candidates need to be based maximum 2 hours of Seville or willing to move to Seville, Spain.
Candidates need to be fluent in English. A work permit is required, but not provided. This position is open for contractors.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Design and build interactive, user-friendly web applications;
- Develop the ESPR methodology compendium as a structured, navigable online platform;
- Implement features such as content organisation, search, user roles, and access control;
- Ensure high usability and publication-quality design standards;
- Build data pipelines for extracting, cleaning, and structuring data from multiple sources (PDFs, APIs, databases, web);
- Design and maintain relational and non-relational databases;
- Develop tools for data analysis and quality assurance;
- Support dashboards and internal analytical tools for policy studies;
- Develop AI-powered tools for document processing and content generation;
- Apply NLP techniques such as classification, summarisation, topic modelling, and sentiment analysis;
- Integrate large language models (LLMs) into production workflows;
- Support automated generation of structured technical documents and manuals;
- Create dashboards and visual analytics tools for non-technical users;
- Communicate complex datasets in clear and accessible formats;
- Support policy analysis and decision-making through interactive tools;
- Develop tools to process and analyse consultation feedback and textual data;
- Extract structured insights from unstructured documents and reports;
- Support evidence-based policy development through data-driven analysis;
- Design data models supporting Digital Product Passport initiatives under ESPR;
- Develop internal tools for project tracking and timesheet analysis;
- Support workflow automation and internal data management systems;
- Ensure compliance with EU and European Institution's data governance and security policies;
- Handle sensitive and confidential data responsibly;
- Collaborate closely with PPA scientists, European Institution's IT services, and related teams;
Profile:
- Bachelor or Master degree;
- + 11 years of relevant working experience;
- Software and Web Development: designing and building production-grade applications, including interactive web platforms and user-facing systems;
- Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing: applied machine learning, LLM integration, and NLP techniques such as classification, summarization, topic modelling, and sentiment analysis;
- Data Engineering: designing and managing data pipelines, databases, and data processing workflows across heterogeneous data sources;
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript, with the ability to write clean, maintainable code and develop practical tools for research and policy environments;
- Experience designing and building interactive web applications, including user interfaces, content navigation systems, user authentication, role-based access control, and document management;
- Strong understanding of information architecture, including structuring and presenting large volumes of technical content in a clear, searchable, and user-friendly way;
- Experience building data pipelines to extract, clean, and structure data from diverse sources such as PDFs, APIs, databases, and web pages;
- Solid knowledge of database design and management, including both relational (e.g. PostgreSQL) and non-relational (e.g. MongoDB) systems;
- Ability to work with large datasets and perform data quality checks, transformation, and integration;
- Practical experience with machine learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP), including text classification, topic modelling, sentiment analysis, and summarisation;
- Experience integrating large language models (LLMs) into applied workflows and production systems;
- Experience developing data visualisation tools and dashboards to communicate complex data to non-technical audiences (e.g. Power BI, Qlik Sense or similar);
- Understanding of data governance principles, including data protection, security, and handling of confidential information;
- Fluent in English;
Desirable
- Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI, Qlik Sense, or similar);
- Familiarity with UX design and information architecture for technical content;
- Background knowledge in industrial or environmental engineering;
- Familiarity with EU environmental policy frameworks, especially the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and related processes;
