At Tendam, we are expanding our Data & Analytics team to tackle exciting challenges in the fashion retail industry. We're looking for a Machine Learning Engineer who will bridge the gap between Data Scientists and Data Engineers, accelerate the ML project lifecycle, and maximize the use of our cloud infrastructure.

Role Overview:
My client is seeking an experienced
Data Engineer
to support key data initiatives on an initial
6-month contract. The role will focus on designing, building, and maintaining reliable, scalable data pipelines and ensuring high standards of data quality, governance, and interoperability.
You will work in a modern, cloud-based environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust data solutions that support critical business and scientific use cases. This role is fully remote, provided you are based in Spain.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable
ETL pipelines using Python
Work extensively with
JSON and JSON Schema
to ensure structured, consistent data
Implement and maintain
data validation frameworks
to enforce data quality standards
Orchestrate and manage workflows using
Apache Airflow, Prefect, or similar tools
Manage
schema registries, including schema versioning and controlled evolution
Align datasets with
controlled vocabularies and ontologies
to ensure semantic consistency
Utilize
cloud-based data services
for scalable data processing and storage
Implement and maintain
CI/CD pipelines
for data engineering workflows
Develop and support
automated testing and monitoring
to ensure data reliability and performance
Collaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements and governance standards
Required Skills & Experience
Strong experience in
Data Engineering, particularly Python-based ETL development
Solid understanding of
JSON, JSON Schema, and data modeling principles
Hands‐on experience with
workflow orchestration tools
(Airflow, Prefect, or equivalent)
Experience implementing
data validation, testing, and monitoring frameworks
Familiarity with
schema registry tools
and schema versioning practices
Experience working with
cloud data platforms and services
Strong understanding of
CI/CD principles
applied to data pipelines
Ability to work independently in a
fully remote
environment
EU citizenship
and current residence in Spain (mandatory)
Nice to Have
Experience with
controlled vocabularies, ontology alignment, or semantic data modeling
Exposure to
metadata management platforms or data catalogs
Previous experience in
life sciences, healthcare, or other regulated industries

What do you need to fulfill this job?
Design, develop, and optimize
PL/SQL procedures, packages, and functions
to support data integration, transformation, and processing workflows.
Manage and maintain
Oracle databases, ensuring performance, reliability, and integrity across data pipelines and data marts.
Build and automate
ETL processes
for extracting, transforming, and loading data into analytical and operational data stores.
Develop
Spring Boot services
to support data ingestion, API-driven integrations, and backend automation.
Create, enhance, and troubleshoot
Unix/Linux shell scripts
to orchestrate jobs, automate data workflows, and manage system-level tasks.
Collaborate with Data Architecture and Analytics teams to ensure accurate, timely, and scalable data delivery.
Perform root‐cause analysis, debugging, and performance tuning across database queries, ETL jobs, and application components.
Contribute to the design and evolution of
data models and data mart structures, ensuring alignment with business and reporting needs.
Ensure compliance with data governance, quality standards, and security requirements.
Support production environments, including proactive monitoring and incident resolution.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong expertise in
Oracle
and advanced
PL/SQL
development.
Proficiency in
Unix/Linux scripting
(bash, ksh, or similar).
Hands‐on experience designing and maintaining
ETL processes
and data integration workflows.
Solid understanding of
data warehousing concepts, star/snowflake schemas, and data mart modeling.
Strong experience building backend services with
Java + Spring Boot .
Familiarity with job schedulers (Cron, Autosys, Control‐M, or similar).
Experience working with large datasets and performance optimization techniques.
Ability to troubleshoot complex data and system issues across multiple layers.
Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based development workflows.
Knowledge of REST APIs and integration patterns.
Exposure to cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is a plus.
Familiarity with Kafka, messaging systems, or event-driven architectures.
